Hey now that you mention it and I look it up your right... he does look more like the Brazillian gramma. I always wondered why he was so pink (although the picture makes him look much more pink than he actually is).... and how he didnt quite look like the Royal gramma.

Thanks!

Yeah I thought those might come out with age since he's quite small... never thought to check if he was another species. Oh well... it happens so much with marine fish. We bought a coris wrasse and turns out its a Queen Coris and will get much bigger than we had thought! 8)

I just had to give me 2cents about how beautiful the aquarium looks. It has earned my 10 stars out of 10 stars. Very impressive.

First off nice photos! Secondly your tank looks amazing even more so considering you have only had it running for 6 months. If you are interested in telling me, I would be interested to hear a few details about it. Did you transfer established liverock from another tank when you set it up? What are you using for filtration?

Thanks :)

nice :D

watch out for the galaxea, they are extremely powerful stingers, and their sweepers can extend out for a foot

the caulerpa may also end up 'digging in' to your live rock, where it will be next to impossible to eradicate, and may cause issues for your corals

I havent checked back here in a while....

keston, thanks for the comments! I am very happy with how this tank turned out. It was my second reef tank, being set up soon after I set up my 5 gallon nano for the build off.

iyugen, thanks again, I especially love the pic of the gramma yawning. Practice makes perfect with photography and I'll have to post some more recent pictures. The tank was indeed only 6 months old at the time. I did not transfer rock from another tank, it was newly purchased cured jakarta rock. It was amazing rock, I still get neat things growing on it like sponges, tunicates, zoos, macro, red and pink and purple coralline, etc. I also had some mighty nasty hitchiker crabs. For filtration on the tank I am using an aquaclear 200 with sponge and floss, as well as a prizm skimmer (almost useless!). For additional flow there is the powerhead. Visit my site http://www.riftnreef.com for more specs on this tank plus info and pics of my other tanks. I hope to update that site with new photos and stuff soon, I've let it slip cus of school.

vitz, thanks for the heads up. Since the original post I've let the galaxy go. They tend not to have a great survival in aquariums, but I think it was mostly my fault. I (and my corals) never had any problems with the stingers, but it was mounted on a circular peice of rock that was impossible to place, and kept getting knocked over by the hermits. I didnt notice it one time and when I turned it over it was almost a goner. I threw it in the back of the tank where it withered away in my "junk pile". hehe ;). The grape caulerpa is definately a PITA, but I love the prolifera. I've cut it all right back for the time being, but it really creates a nice balance in a reef tank. I dont think I'll ever have a reef tank with no macro in it. I also have to rip out as much xenia and anthelia as I can every couple months cus it just takes over.

Plus, that wee little monitpora has tripled in size, and almost takes up 1/3 of the tank. Its screaming for a larger space, and has started growing up the side of the tank glass. :s

Soon I'll be combining this tank with my 33 gallon reef, and I'll post some pics once its done.

:)
