Does anyone have this camera? Or know anything about it?

I bought one for a steal ($499 CAD, almost $200 cheaper then retail) before I went to Japan so I had a camera for the trip. I love some of the photos I was able to take in Japan (I even managed to get good pictures thru the window of a train!).

But when taking pics of my tank, I am having issues. Wondering if this cam is really cut out for tank shots...

Should I just pick up a book on photography or ditch the cam and start with something better? Any book recommendations? Preferably something like "intro to photography for dummies!"... hmmm I am gonna go peek at amazon and see if that book actually exists..

Whats bugging me is that I am able to get better shots of my tank using my friend A60 and setting the white balance then I am able to with my camera... I think the V1 has too many otpions and I dont really understand what they do. Beh!

I R teh suk, tia for any help/feedback/suggestions...

They are probably both fine but before you spend the money check out www.dgrin.com Also try posting some pictures up and let us see the problem. A lot of tank shooting is about the angle you hold the camera. Depending on what your trying to shoot, fish that are going by very fast or still corals you want to use different manual settings. Also shoot in manual as much as possible to learn the AV vs/ shutter speed.

What are you shooting thats not coming out right?

Hey SM, trust me I have checked those pictures out a few times. Amazing shots, love the anemone/clown pics. I even emialed the link to my sister to try to convince her we need to take a trip there, my wife isnt a water person so we will see.....

On anoghter note where did you pick up the oly/strobe/housing deal. I am in the same situation as I also have the dRebel but 1200$ for the housing then $600+ for the strobe is getting up there. Add to that the fact that you can't use the Drebels LCD for a viewfinder makes me think it would be difficult while under water with a mask on. I checked out backscatter and a few others but want to know if you have anoghter good source for package deals?

Sorry to hijack the thread Lostmind! Post a picture so I can see what the problems are.

That was David's doing, Ben. He found the package deal first, then doing a few minutes of research demonstrated that he could put it together himself for less. To be sure, the flash is weak for these applications, but we were in quite a hurry.
