You guys heard the tale of the Emporer's Robe. If those guys can take shots at my beloved black tang, I'll just say that this clown species isn't all that special to me. This appears to be a case of wanting somethin just because it is rare. Just be patient my friends, once Representative Case's hr4928 bill becomes law everything non clown or psuedo will become rare and you can covet things that truly are beautiful. No offense intended naka, I'm just trying to warn people about the future.

Ah hem
The species in question is A.Leucokranos. Definately a rarity in the clown world. It is thought to be a hybrid between A.Sandarcinos and A.Chrysopterus.
Beautiful fish. My personal favorite [I have three]. $100 is a pretty good deal for one. They ship very poorly. Of course we want it because its rare. When was the last time you saw a truly "stunning" Purple Monster frag. [for $300]. They all look like a washed out tricolor nub..
What on earth does a Black Tang have to do w this?
kris,
Over on the general forum a couple of non-believers committed the sacriledge of suggesting that a common, ordinary yellow tang was more attractive than God's gift to the tang keeping underground: Zebrasoma rostratum. If someone were to take pictures to the general public to judge all the clownfishes on their attractiveness, A. leucokranos wouldn't even make the top ten. BTW those pictures that were posted don't exactly look like the same clown that is pictured in Allen's "Anemone Fishes and their Host Anemones" or Wilkerson's "Clownfishes" as A. leucokranos. It could actually be a hybrid between A. chrysopterus and A. leucokranos. See page 49 in Allen's book. How can we be sure what it is?

Probably not Theili, the only reason I say probably is that only a handful of Theili have ever made it state side. And the ID on them in the relevant publications and [IME] the "rare clown" community is very vague. The only one I ever saw was very orange and had a different body shape than all the Leuco's I've seen.
As to what produces the cross, a picture is worth a thousand words.
BTW I own a Black Tang and its just flat out wrong to put it in the same sentence as a Yellow or almost any other Tang [cept maybe Gematum of course].
I'm going to go out and but a Helfreichi instead of a Firefish just to spite the naysayers...
Also Leucokranos is the most beautiful clownfish to anyone with any taste........
