I believe those are barnicles, and they are much more common on wild corals. They dont reproduce in captivity as well.

Ming is correct it's a type of boring barnacle. It is harmless to the acro and tends to grow with whatever coral it inhabits.

Thats off the tenuis you got from me> most of the sps i get in have barnacles on them ,i think they are pretty cool .always fanning the water like they do

i'm assuming the polyp is replaced by the barnicle.

no the barnacle actually bores into the skeleton the "feather" is just the apparatus it uses to catch passing particles the animal is fully embedded in the coral. If you look at one closely you can see the slit where the animal lives. They have to grow with the coral or become entombed by it's growth.

i've had these barnacles come on many corals that i've purchased. favia and inside the mouth of a froggie, etc.

although they are tiny it's cool to watch them filter feed
