Hello all.

I'm looking for a gift camera. I'm hoping to find a very user friendly but good quality pic digicam for my GF.

I found the Coolpix 2500 to be great quality, but many people are complaining about the time it takes to start up. This is very true of some of the cameras. She just wants to be able to whip it out and take pictures of things and people and places, not have to wait 10 minutes.

Also, my price range is about $200.

Can it be done?

Thanks,
B

Fuji's A203 is a good candidate. For a bit more, the A303 is better. At $300, you have the Canon A70 to consider.

Sorry if this came too late :P I don't know where all the people ran off to.

I've got the Canon Powershot A40 which is a 2 MP camera w/ a *lot* of bells n whistles and I got it for around $250. You can set it on automatic and make it basically a point n shoot camera, or you can set it to semi auto, manual, etc. It's got a good macro mode as well. I ended up also going w/ NiMH rechargable batteries as the flash and display does chew thru them pretty quickly. I did sink about $45 into a 128 MB Lexmar CF card as every single digital camera manufacturer ships their cameras with not enough storage space.

I thought SanDisk sucked as far as speed went? Isn't Lexar a better card?

"SimpleTech" Not the first foggy idea what speed, it was nowhere on the chip or on the packaging. I've used 3 of them now (2 x 256 & 1 x 128) and have had no complaints.

The sandisks have actually been working fine for me...my only other reference is the IBM Microdrive, and it feels like the Sandisk is actually faster than the microdrive in most cases.

Hey brian, check out the cannon A300. 3.2 megapixel for $200. Comp usa had them with a free 64 meg card (after rebate of course)

I like mine a lot. it's just a little point and shoot that I keep in my bag for fun shots.
