Okay, having went to a photoshop, and having looked at the Canon Powershot G3, I am thinking its the One.

Could any of you that have taken pictures with that particular camera please post them in this topic for me to look at. The guy at the Photoshop had some examples, but there weren't enough for me to really see its full potential.

Thanks for the help

I don't own this camera myself, but I have literally seen hundreds of spectacular shots with it. The Canon G3 is a winner, hands down.

I have some shots a local hobbyist took of my tank with his G3. It's at work and I'll upload them tomorrow after resizing them. If I don't remember, give me a reminder :P

Thanks Len,

I think my biggest problem is that I can't decide where to get it. I have found upwards of 200$ price difference between different vendors. I went to RitzCamera, and their price was 699, as well as several different reputable etailers, like Dell. I have also found a number of places that sell the same camera, or at least something they are touting as the same, for only 439.

Something about the 439 price scares me. I realize that there is a significant markup on cameras, but I didn't think it was that much.

when you buy a camera (and most other electronic devices nowaday) ask if it is a USA model or a Grey ('overseas') model. That's where the $439 price comes from. It will have a 30 or 45 day warranty, and you have to send it OVERSEAS to get it repaired.

All my camera stuff comes from www.bhphotovideo.com. Best place I've ever shopped for anything camera related.

Wow. what a nice camera you've chosen! ($649) And yes, it will do macro shots. down to 2.5". since it's got Optical zoom, you'll be able to take great tank shots!

Well, I couldn't wait.

I am such a Wus!

Here is what I got

Canon Powershot G3
32Mb internal memory
32Mb Flash Compact card
strap, case, cables, Bundled software

Price 559.20$

Here is what happened.

Went on Dell.com as I have purchased 2 really sweet systems from them. The price listed was 669$ So, I called them up and told them that I had found that camera listed for a lot lower. The guy I talked to said he can't match prices. So I hung up.

That was like 3 days ago.

Tonight I come home from work, and go to the same webpage and now there is a 69 dollar discount on that camera, so I add it to the cart and see that I can add any coupons I have. Well, I didn't seem to have any. So I called Dell up again. This time I got a really nice guy to whom I explained my whole situation.

You know, how I have bought two complete systems from them including flat screen monitors, and scanners, basically the works, and I think I should have gotten some kind of discount by now, especially since I am about to buy a third complete system.

So the guy gets all my information and puts me on hold for about ten minutes. when he gets back on the line he says the best he can do is 559$

What do you think? Good deal or not?

I asked about it being a grey model and he assured me it was not.

thanks for all the tips

Sounds like you got a great deal.

The one thing I would highly suggest is looking for higher storage capacity. A 32M card, taking full res pics, will not last long. Certainly not long enough for a vacation. There are some great deals on 512 or even 1G flashcards going on right now. That, and a second or third set of rechargable batteries!

I picked up my G3 right when they came out and paid the $700 so I'd say you got a deal on it and I agree you are going to probably want the bigger memory stick (I have a 128 and it holds about 40 pictures?)...didnt realize they had the 1G out at a reasonable rate....btw, what is a reasonable rate for the 1G stick?

Just picked it up at best buy for 598.00. Came with a free 64mb CF card. Here is one of my first shots, no tripod. I just walked up to the glass and shot on auto mode with the macro setting on. You can also get the one year financing with no interest. Great deal, I just could not pass it up.

This pic is a good start, but I am sure it will get better with practice.
