I use a Fujifilm Finepix 2600z and used to get pics like this on automatic mode

Drove me up the wall because this is not what it looks like in person. And I did not want to have to edit it in a photo program.

I read a couple times now to try adjusting white balance on camera manually. Well I finally got off my butt and tried it. Wow what a difference.
Now my pics look like they are supposed to look.

Now if I could only get it to take good macro shots. No tip will help here though, I just need to get a better camera down the road :D

Probally not the place to ask this but does anyone know what this coral is?
Was sold as a M.Capricornis but even the seller admits its a bit off on the ID.

Sweet! Yeah, WB makes a HUGE difference when it comes to digital photography. But it is a whole lot easier then all the filters you have to put up with for conventional film photography ;)

hi.
The sand is slightly too red... is this normal for a properly white-balanced shots?

The coral looks like a type of encrusting Montipora....

I dont think I understand the question.
My camera has 6 manual white balance settings according to the type of lighting you are photographing in. I took the same photo in all 6 settings and the one that looked like what I am seeing is the one I finally settled on.
I have a cyano problem right now maybe thats why the sand looks reddish to you? Or maybe the white balance setting Im using is not right on (sand looks like it does at home to me).

For better macro shots there are some cheap filters you can get... I got a set on ebay for $40 with the adapter. Unfortunately the macro was already do good on my coolpix it was a waste. I gave it to a friend with a sony digicam and he said it allowed him to get a good bit closer.
