I hate to ask a brand supporting question, but what is the best pic shooting digi cam for 500$ or less? I am returning my 2nd camera a Sony DSC 52. It is fine for shooting around but, worthless aquarium photos is all I have gotten. Why is finding one w/ lots of zoom a problem?

If you going to shoot mostly tank shots, my recommendation would be either the nikon 995 (discontinued) or the Nikon 4500 (its replacement). Mainly because it has the best macro features of cameras in its price range. Others to consider would be the Canon G2 or G3 (great macro as well with a macro lens add-on). Anyone else have suggestions?

My Minolta DiMage 7i still officially retails at like $1100, but I found it for $585. Just gotta dig around the web some.

I've been checking on line for the some of the cameras. Thanks for the tip about add on lenses. I'm not a photographer so I didn't think about add ons. Olympus makes a camera w/ 10x optical @ 3.2 MP. I forget the model name. Is this one worth the 499? I am looking into the Nikons. I do want to shoot the close ups I've seen other people shoot. In my 33L reef my frags are small & most of the fish are really little too.
