Have one scan done.

First one slightly cropped from full frame, resized to 800 pixels wide.

Second one close-cropped at full 5400 dpi resolution.

I didn't clean it well beforehand, and did not run ICE on it either.

Images not retouched in any way.
Image of Psammacora contigua in Howard Allan's tank circa Nov. '02.
Would have been taken using Nikor 28-105mm lens on reversing ring, probably at around 1:1 or so.

Regards.

P.S. And, yes, it had some sort of weird disease on it...

Second one, scanned at 900 dpi, then resized.

I applied sharpen to it, but could barely tell the difference.

hey those are nice scans. Very clean and sharp

what's that glowing thing in the last picture?

Having sharp scans always starts with having sharp slides. :D

The 'glowing thing' is the mouth on a particularly nice mushroom, probably a species of Ricordea, but I am no expert on this area of coral taxonomy...
The colors in the slide are a bit more intense, but this is still pretty close.

Regards.

That looks like a species of Ricordea yuma to me, Mike...the nubs aren't as close together on yuma as they are on Ricordea florida.

Peace,

Chip

Pick of moss on rocks in the area known as Giant City, a park in downstate Illinois.

This scan was harder to pull out. The 1/3rd stop over-exposed scanned best, but still needed to tweak the greens to get them to come out like they should. Saturation on greens increased, hue down slightly. Left side exceptionally dense, not much comes out when scanned.

Enjoy!
