Well, they popped outta their dad at around noon today, and we were able to save about 125 of them, at least. They're orange reidis from Brazil.

Cool! Can you get a pic with something for size reference?

Congrats!

They are fairly "easy" to raise. The catch is that you have to provide alot of food of the right size at the right time. They start on baby brine (artemia) and as they age they switch to live brine. Once large enough, they then have to shift to frozen mysis. Each transition point tends to lose a few of them. I started with about 60 fry (newly released about 5mm long) and have around 20-30 2-3" horses now. They still aren't large enough to put in a full tank, but they are getting there quickly.

Baby brine was hatched, and they ate like pigs. Didn't lose any the first night, but we'll see today when I stop by to feed and clean the tank.

Here's hoping!

sell them to the LFS i guess...

Bar, I *am* the LFS. ;) That's where they are now. ;)

Anyway, they ate again like hogs today. I counted 15 dead when I siphoned the bottom today...poor little guys.

Also, some sad news. The male that had the babies died today, most probably due to stress. After all, he gave birth not even 24 hours after he arrived from the west coast. :(

Still, over 100 babies left...

Peace,

Chip
