both because i'm still reefless, and i don't have a decent camera

i do have a quick q...

what does 'unretouched' mean?

and why, if it means what i think, isn't the term 'untouched'?

i've always wondered about that...

Sounds like you know what it means. But I always wondered that as well. Kinda like why do packages of hot dogs contain 8 and the packages of buns only 6?

so can one 'garf up' a photo once, and still claim it's 'unretouched', having only been 'touched' :?: :?

Okay halt! Improper use of the term "garf'd" :!:

Garf (gärf ) tr. & intr.v. Slang Garfed, Garf·ing

To alter an image by increasing hue and saturation to unnatural levels to shamelessly promote aquarium skills that don't exist.

Simple use of image editing software to correct errors and create art is one thing and not Garfing, now if Len wanted to say that ANYONE can take a beautiful flower macro with a disposable kodak camera and here's his proof.... well thats Garfing. 8)

Retouching is a term that's been around for some time, going way back to the time of tintypes, IIRC, (post Daguerro-types) when it was the practice to "retouch" prints, that is to say, color would be added by hand. Oddly enough, this term is not used in, for instance, engraved lithos, where the printer would come out with a black and white print he would then color by hand.

Retouching means that the print has been "cleaned up", modified in some manner--usually removing zitz of high schoolers, removing red-eye, and so on.

Hey now ....... ;)

Tis true. Garfing can be fun, and has a place as art. Garfing shouldn't, however, be used to sell livestock.

Just using you as an example, last time I checked ReefScapes wasn't a commercial site selling Kodak throw-aways :D
