Okay, so I've got a prosumer minolta, right? It has a built-in zoom that goes out to a 35mm equivalent of 200mm, right? Because it's a prosumer camera, there's almost zilch in the way of additional lenses I can get. Well one thing I can get is a simple 2x optical magnification lens that's designed for prosumer cameras and videocams.

question is, if I get this 2x 'zoom' lens, will that then effectively give me a 400mm (equivalent) focal length at maximum zoom? That's the logic, but I can be pretty illogical sometimes!

Yes, a 2x teleconverter will give you a 400mm equivalent length. It's a linear ratio. Now who needs 400mm, you voyeur! :P

(Actually, I'd like to get it mostly for sports photography, and also to try and get more into astronomy shots, esp moon shots. Plus I bet it would make for a monstrous macro!!)
