While trying to get a picture of the urchin, I jerked the camera and ended up with a good picture of the scallop. Too bad my urchin pictures didn't come out this crisp

He is in a rock cave at the top of the tank.

The shell is about 3" long

He has been in the tank for a week.

This is probably my most irresponsible purchase so far. I do have hermit crabs and some emerald crabs that may end up bothering him. They usually go for anything with sponge growing on it, and there is no life in the cave other than the scallop. There is flow through the cave so he is getting phyto.

If he dies, I will cook him for Jerry for supper..mmmmm.....Joking!...Yuck....ewww.....

If it's 3 inches long-it's very old already. So don't feel too bad if it does die. 3 to 3.5 inches are about the maximum size they can go from what I know.

You have much better chance to raise it longer if you get it at 1.5 inches. These are VERY FAST growing animals, make sure you also have a lot of calcium and other minerals for it's shelf growth. Mine grow more than 2 inches in half a year and after they attained 3.5" they do not grow any bigger for the next four months.

Very nice pic Leslie. I've had a flame scallop for 3 months already, the funny thing is how they just choose where they are going to stay. You can always supplement with some of the phyto foods you can get. Best way to figure out if they need a lil extra is that the small tentacles start losing their brilliant color. I have a lot of hermits, a blood red shrimp and a skunk cleaner and they NEVER bother it, but I heard that coral bandeds are very aggressive. Best of luck

Hi Leslie,
Make sure your rock work is secure. Mine caused all sorts of shifting in my tank of the rockwork. It moved all over the tank till it found its sweet spot under the rockwork. You can see it in my tank thread pictures under the rocks. I have cleaner, bloods and hermits, they dont even go near it.
See you at the get together.
