macro shots with canon powershot

i cant figure out how to do macro shots with my canon power shot sx40.i put it on macro and start to zoom in and i blurs up.seems like it does the same on every setting.what can i be doing wrong

you have to check the focal point (what is the closest you can be to the actual item you are focusing on. If you are able to focus at the widest point and then optical zoom you should be ok. Unless you are losing the focus.

See if it has an AF mode somehwere around the lens or on the camera. Then check your setting.

Same thing happens with my canon powershot. I'm going to look for the "AF".

I cant figure it out.the fts come out great but I cant figure out how to get a close up of my corals

Tagging along here. Question, how did you get into Macro Duke? I know if you get into menu you can get into AF functions

That's a point and shoot. When u go into macro mode, don't zoom in. Just get the camera as close as u can. Also try to use manual focus.

Then crop the pics once u upload to the computer.

really?that stinks.i have corals in the back of the tank i wanted to get macro shots of .but even on regular settings i can get a close shot of my corals without the zoom it doesnt look any different then macro setting?

Here an example. This was taken with a point and shoot, macro setting. Then I cropped it on the pc.
It's uploaded off my phone, so not as clear as from the pc..but gives you a size reference.
