Unfortunately, this will be a freshwater set-up, so it won't be a tank thread, but look at what Alex got me: :bablefish (I am getting the smallest model!)

Also, take a look at the matching furniture (I could not afford that, unfortunately )

Nice....Looking forward to the setup.

What type of Freshwater fish? Discus tank? You should touch base with Frank (FRY). I think he has a couple of FW tanks. I'm sure other members will chime in.

Are you going to run the drains into a wet/dry filter with bio-balls?

Planted tanks.........are very nice as well.

Yeah - my original goal was to go for a true blackwater biotope with wild discus - but then I saw this:

and this:
nature-aquarium-2.jpg

and now I can't wait to get it going for this Takashi Amano (he pioneered this look) style tank.

Really? I thought he is the famous face person for this look. But this is just a traditional Asian Tanquil Monotone Look before me and you are born.

Anyway, the second is very interesting. I have not seen this(if it's his work) in his showroom before.

Hey, Alex

Hope you don't mind our using your bandwdith for this, but to answer your question, Wingo:

Certainly, this style of aquascaping has existed before - but Takashi Amano is a professional photographer who has propelled this 'look' to the prominence it enjoys now. He became an aquarist after he started photographing aquascapes.

So, through reading and surfing, what I find now are three types of planted freshwater tanks: biotopes, Dutch (very formal, very garden-like), and Amano-style.

The second photo is not one of his tanks, but was created by George and Steven Lo of Aqua Forest Aquarium in San Francisco. I find it amazing - I think the only plants being used are Java Moss (tree and the road) and some hairgrass:scratchch. Of course, they are followers of Amano's and sell his Amano Design stuff.

Thanks for pointing that out, Wingo - of course, moss (corrected in the post).

Anyway - got the tank today - THANK YOU to AE!!!

It looks absolutely incredible, and while lots of people will think it's a waste of a great reef tank, I will do this tank proud - and post pictures on MR :shhh:

Wingo - I am totally taking you up on that offer.

And the size that I got was the smallest (which is still huge once you get it into the house): 150g, which is 36x36x27.

I've got some java fern long and narrow leaf if your interested, also some of the ones that have the little arms at the end of the fern.

I neglected my tank for awhile and loss some really nice short hair grass and all my stem plants.

The hardest things about plantd tanks I found was getting really good quality Malaysian drift wood (Amano style). I was only able to get a few branches at an auction once, but rest I got was common stuff from LFS.
