I understand the psychological aspect of what they did as far as showing that we know who they are and what they are doing, but wouldn't a small amount of unseen code that tracks the IP of downloads or even a keylogger (for email access or other websites) have yielded far more effective results? Does navigating my own email sometimes have to be more dangerous than facing MI6 hackers? Sony lost their network for the better part of 2 months and all MI6 did was insert a link for cupcake recipes for 2 weeks? I'm sure there are other operations that we will never here about that are far more effective but I feel like they could have done far worse.

Hopefully, this was simply a diversionary tactic that doubled for + publicity. I'd like to think they've done more than just give a recipe for cupcakes. At least a recipe for chocolate chip cookies!
