Hey all, after dealing with the problems of my S4 over the years, I decided to call it quits. I sold it back in November but I just haven't bought anything until now.

Just picked up a CPO 2007 BMW 335i 6spd with sports package and nav. I absolutely love this car. It is my first bmw I have had and its a blast to drive. I cant wait to get the JB4 tune and get 100 hp from just a couple of pounds of boost and some timing advance. These things have a ton of potential.

Great looking car.
BMW's are great to drive and so much fun. Only problem is maintenance is so damn expensive. Just my oil changes are over 200$ I go through 2-3 sets of tires a year as well because the back tires wear so fast.

well since this a CPO car It has an extended warranty and maintenance until 2013. So maintenance should not be a problem at all.

2 -3 sets of tires a year sounds likes something is wrong and 200 an oil change sounds way overpriced. BMW offers free oil changes up to 50 000 miles. My vetted and Lincolns are only 75 an oil change with Mobil 1

Nice buy, besides losing the AWD it was a nice step up. Few small things though. BMW maintnenace intervals are a joke. 15k on a heavy boosted car?No way, Id do at least one oil change in between, should be every 5k. Theyll only cover every 15k. A few things to keep in mind with these cars.
1-Once flashed, you can never go back to the dealer for a programming update, unless the dealer is aware of your chip. If the car needs a new CD player, the ENTIRE car must programmed if the CD software is newer. SO your chip will be over written.
2-BMW programmed the trans to go into failsafe at 425lb/ft or so. If so, it must be towed and flashed.
3- Check maintenance history if possible for the high pressure fuel pump recall. They fail, usually leaving you stranded.
4-Depending on the mileage, Id look into some sort of valve cleaning, seafoam etc. There are big time problems with carbon buildup from direct injection.
5-Also check for wastegate replacement. If you hear a clicking noise when coming off boost, theyll prob need replacement.
6- Rear tires are hella expensive, hella heavy, and hella soft. Usually 15-17k is a good set.
Theyre great cars, but as Im sure youve experienced with your B5 S4, they do have their probs. I see NJ plates, Im opening a shop in Lyndhurst if you need anything. I was BMW master tech as of 2008 when I left the dealer.

Yea I wanted an AWD model but I really couldn't find any decent awd 6spd cars at all. Finding any 2007 335 sedan in a 6spd is impossible. I don't think that 425 ft/lb of torque applies to the 6spd its probably just to the autos. I don't think it can lock you out. Many people have these things flashed without any problems.

The fuel pump is known problem and is a recall so if you bring it in to any dealer it will be replaced upto 100k miles or something like that. It has already been done so no problems there.

I haven't heard of carbon build up problems on these cars. I know it was a problem on the old v8 m5s. It has 55k on the clock. What would you recommend to clean the carbon off?

I haven't heard of wastegate problems. They don't click or anything. I have a warranty until 2013 100k miles. so if they go, ill just get them replaced under the warranty.

Yea ill probably do the oil change myself. I'm pretty handy. I agree, on a turbo car i wouldn't do anything less than 5000 mile oil changes. What oil would be best to use? I have always used mobile one in all of my cars. Never had any issues.

Yea rear tires are no problem. I usually get good deals on tires off of craigslist or ebay. Its all about how you drive. I think they are expensive if you get run flats, normal tires are not that bad. I have roadside assistance so no point in getting run flats. I might just get a spare tire to put in the rear. Like I said earlier, I was killing to get an AWD model but I didn't want an auto. That would just be a bore to drive.

This car will never have the problems a b5 s4 has. It is much more reliable then that. I really haven't heard any horror stories with these things.

The plates are from the previous owner. I live in new york. I just have to register it. Thanks for the help. If I need any help I will let you know.

I used to get my oil changes done at the dealership. Probably why it cost so much. Last oil change I just bought oil online and brought it to a friends shop. Oil was still about 90-100 bucks online shipped to my house for castrol tws for my engine.

Castrol TWS is for M3/M5, so then you can afford it!!!! Mr Reef Tank M car!!!lol

As for carbon you can check the forums some people tried seafoam, but semi risky. I had a hell of a time fixing a earlier 335 with carbon issues, NA finally threw a complete motor at it. Youll prob want the wastegates to go under CPO, easiest way to do it is support the motor from the top and remove complete front subframe. Pretty much take the front wheels and everything attached and roll it out of the way. And yes true wiht the manual, forgot to check that. Youll be good to go, jsut be careful with any type of programming.

The jbv4 tune can be taken out at anytime. So if doea have a problem you can just put it back to stock no problem. Also those plates on the car are from the previous owner and are no longer active. Just used for transport
