I never put any Koi or anything expensive in there. Just goldfish. The damn Raccoons and cats get to them. I watch them from the window fishing.

No cat or raccoon issues for my dad. He is in Fairlawn, NJ. He does however have what he said is a Heron which was eating fish (Long legs and slender body). So he now has a Heron decoy there as well, the real one hasn't returned.

There are several options.
1 - Tub precast
2 - Liner: There are several liners to choose from. And then there are the liners to protect the liner from sharp objects.
3 - Lastly there is poured concrete.

The best way to go is probably the liner. You have the flexibility to make any shape you want and its relatively cheap.

there are patio and indoor ponds available, from around 30 gal to 100 gal. just be careful about splash and indoor humidity factor. i'd turn my basement into a fishroom if it weren't for the humidity factor. oh and other reasons :happysad:

do the pond nypd, you'll love it. and for the others no matter whether you live on an acre, a townhouse, or an apt, theres some sort of pond right for you. ponds are all about "look down" (aside from the above ground lscape including wfall or whatever)
my pond sucks but this thread is motivating me to try and make it more presentable.
one thing i didnt realize is how fast plants grow in little time with no help at all, to the point you're pulling stuff out and wish you never planted it there. the neighbor next door had some awesome lilies but pulled out every single root because it got unmanageable. now they just have big fat koi and nothing else in there. floating plants are the easiest to manage. lilies and most other submergents/rooteds are quite invasive. my favorite floaters are frogbit and water hyacinth although they don't seem to survive the winter, so ya just buy em on ebay each spring.
you can naturalize your pond by putting in stuff like tadpoles and res turtles. my turtles crawled away somewhere though :(

after you did the hole no you cant just fill it with water (heehee this aint florida). theres the preliner or you can use old carpet and or wet newspaper if youre poor like me, and then put a liner that is like at least 40-60 mil.

Absolutely forget about choice number 3 which was a may be 50 years old technology and always has water sipping issues if not water proofed right. Oh, if you are making a pond for you to dive in, then it's a different story :lol_large NYPDFROGMAN.

Use the liner, fast, clean, mobile ....... Furthermore, if you have tools to cut wood, go for Japanese pond styling is easy and fast. Once again, they are all mobile!

Keep in mind avoid making a raised pond design too-unless you want to see how interesting to experience scenes in Titanic. I personally saw curtain of water coming thru the windows of my half basement!!! I loved the scene and cannot stop cracking up whole night despite two rooms were flooded.

My housemate said I am crazy MF

From one corner to another corner with new design during the course of the year. I usually switch the orientation once year. Sometimes, I inflat a swimming pool for bikini parties with my friends when the hot season comes. I move it to the corner to make room so to speak.

LOL, you weren't kidding! :arg:

Maybe you should put it on wheels, lay some track and move it like they do the space shuttle, from hangar to launch pad :groupflip

I am serious. That's why my housemates said I am a crazy MF because both me and them have to clean up the floors and like to experiment all different designs of making ponds, DIYs, ..... Converting an inflatable swimming pool to a pond is the worse design I ever made!
GTG party time.

:confused::confused::confused: mobile pond????????? And you say poured concrete is bad?

Mobile ponds may not be for everyone but poured concrete is definately a no no. Lets drink some more beer to make yourself feel better if you already have done that! HAHA

By the way, in NY, a lot of the houses have the backyard cut off the front. That is you have to go thru the house to get to the back. Think of the dust of the concrete filling up your house. Carry a lining thru the house is clean. hehe

Wow! people in Weekhawken have yards???

Nice Herm! I like it... especially with the garden and lights around it. And the little water fall.. the sound of running water late at night is sooo relxing... When I lived home I would open the window to hear it.

I like the logs too...

I have a couple of landscapers giving me prices for a patio area outside my basement door One guy suggested a pond seriously considering.
besides the asthetics also good for insect control.
my only concern is I never do anything small
