There are several options.
1 - Tub precast
2 - Liner: There are several liners to choose from. And then there are the liners to protect the liner from sharp objects.
3 - Lastly there is poured concrete.
The best way to go is probably the liner. You have the flexibility to make any shape you want and its relatively cheap.
there are patio and indoor ponds available, from around 30 gal to 100 gal. just be careful about splash and indoor humidity factor. i'd turn my basement into a fishroom if it weren't for the humidity factor. oh and other reasons :happysad:
do the pond nypd, you'll love it. and for the others no matter whether you live on an acre, a townhouse, or an apt, theres some sort of pond right for you. ponds are all about "look down" (aside from the above ground lscape including wfall or whatever)
my pond sucks but this thread is motivating me to try and make it more presentable.
one thing i didnt realize is how fast plants grow in little time with no help at all, to the point you're pulling stuff out and wish you never planted it there. the neighbor next door had some awesome lilies but pulled out every single root because it got unmanageable. now they just have big fat koi and nothing else in there. floating plants are the easiest to manage. lilies and most other submergents/rooteds are quite invasive. my favorite floaters are frogbit and water hyacinth although they don't seem to survive the winter, so ya just buy em on ebay each spring.
you can naturalize your pond by putting in stuff like tadpoles and res turtles. my turtles crawled away somewhere though
after you did the hole no you cant just fill it with water (heehee this aint florida). theres the preliner or you can use old carpet and or wet newspaper if youre poor like me, and then put a liner that is like at least 40-60 mil.
