NYC or gov employees?

Hi, Im just curious on getting a job with the city or gov as a mechanic for fleet vehicles ie: police, emt, fire, or some where in the gov. I am signed up for the auto mechanic test on june 11 and taking my CDL soon. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on actually getting placed in these job. Would love to work for the city then a stealership or an unstable pvt shop. I believe i have the experiene and qualifications, just not sure on how to get it. thanks!!

I work for city mta for buses in the depot. I left firestone for this job. Look and take civil service test. Look at nyc.gov for civil service test dates also go to mta site look for job opportunity. You just missed I think auto mechanic test there was also bus mechanic. I'm a bus maintainer.

yea the reg date was feb 21 and the test is on june 11, i made it for that 1.

I did very well on city mechanics test in 81 but did not hve the 5 years work exoierence required so I was a temporary helper working in sanitation in 1983 I knew I was going to be hired as police officer so I resigned.
my brother in law works for PD he's a supervisor now love the job!

yea i hope i do well on the exam. i wouldnt want to be a Officer but id like to fix their cars. a cop is hard job all the BS they get. i hav the exp butt not my cdl yet. i hope that is an easy test.

from what I remember it was a technical test I actually thought it was harder than the ASE test.
study for it I had an advantage I was going to NYC tech college so the book stuff was fresh when you do the practical you need to do it by the book
had to do a brake job so I had to Mic the rotors measure run out, stupid stuff like using the right tool to compress the calipers

harder then ase?? ASE's where hard specially AC. IDK they did hat for the CDL, the app said to qualify you must have it. CDL shouldnt be to hard its just driving, and knowing weights. I just finished Lincoln Tech a yr ago and im still doing most of the work so ill be fine at the practical.

i wish u lots of luck. ive been a gov. worker 4 18yrs and now the city 4 2yrs i hate 2 say it but its all WHO u know not WHAT SORRY but its the truth and it SUCKS.

lol unfortunately i think most jobs are that way.
