I took lessons when I was about 13 years old and never got certified. In 2009-2010, I lived in Sydney, Australia for 8 months and traveled the country as best I could. Was lucky enough to Scuba THE Great Barrier Reef and it was the most amazing experience of my life. I travel to the caribbean a decent amount and want to be able to scuba whenever I please.

Question for all you that I have is this.....does anyone have any experience of getting certified in Nassau, Long Island? Any recommendations would be great. Thanks for reading.

I know that if you're a stony brook student you can get certified through the school of marine and atmospheric sciences. Assuming that you're not a student, I would give the department a call and see if they do anything for non students. If not, I'm sure they could give you some information.

There are scuba stores in LI that do certification.
You will have to go through the entire lesson from the start. It is highly unlikely that you will be given training credit for your prior dives.
The PADI course is split into 3 modules. Classroom, pool session and open water dives. You can do the first two parts here and complete the open water portion somewhere more scenic. That is what I would recommend.

SCUBA Network in Carle Place can start you on the path. 516 997 4864.

Good luck

Yea SDI NAUI PADI they are all recognized equally. There are many certifying agencies and all claim to be the best.
I know PADI has the different training modules. Not sure if you can finish the course in another location if you go with one of the others. I doubt you could start with one and finish with another. So if you decide to go ahead make sure you plan wisely.
Wish I could help but I stopped teaching in 03 and I taught in the Carib so I don't know anyone locally. Panaqua in Manhattan is definitely PADI and they are well regarded.

I've been diving since 91..love the ocean. Been to many places but never been to the great barrier reef. I like seascapes in syosset. Alot of scuba school on long island to pick from. Enjoy the reef while we still have them.

any place diving dark water is a good place. We have a great time diving the jersey shore. plenty of cool life to see, plus some great wreaks to hang around. The only pit fall to being a good darkwater diver, when you go on vacations and they find out your darkwater other divers will follow you.
