Ok guys, froggie is being very serious here. He's confiding in us like we are his personal shrinks. So I think we should treat his concerns with the utmost respect and offer him our sincere opinions.

Getting a dog allows you the opportunity to scare away your ghostly nightmares. Getting a cat would only eliminate your fish through digestion. Keeping your fish you'll just continue to have your ghostly nightmares.

I say get the damn dog, and give me your coral for providing you with the only honest opinion. :cool3:

I have a question Froggie... Not sure if it has been asked/mentioned, but, is there someone always at home?

For dogs I believe they need full time attention, Not like fish. I have held back from getting my German Shepard until I know either my wife or I will be home full time. Thats not to say we can't leave the dog for a few hours, but if everyones is out most of the day, every day... I personally don't believe its the "proper" way to care for a dog.

back to your dreaming though... wow! I respect your beliefs in dreams, dogs, phantoms and ghosts... if I were that much of a believer I would be completely freaked with what you experienced.

As for dogs vs fish vs cat that was too tough a decision for me to make. I had a tank always but I really wanted to get a dog that would be there and always happy and wagging etc. So I went out and got one. Then I realized that the mutt would be lonely so I got his cousin. Thats dog # 2. I found that its a lot easier on you and the dogs when you have more than one as they keep each other company and dont need your attention all too much. SOmehow I ended up with #3 also. Never regretted the decision.

Now to the cats: I was never a cat person. In fact I used to be a hater. Until I went to the adoption place. Long story short, I ended up with 4 cats. dogs cats and fish. No One is killied anyone and they get along quite well.

Each and every species has an attribute that the other does not have so to say which is better I acnt say.

But the one thing I can say for sure are the costs and dedication involved. Dogs are totally and completely dependant on you. They depend on you to learn and yeas even to pee and crap. Its a subject that is never talked about but in the beginning you will find land mines and puddles in your house. Its up to your training how long that will keep up. After that you have to walk them twice daily minimum - rain snow or shine. You cant forget they they eat alot plus vet bills and they also depend on you for baths. The most important thing when gettingha dog however is that there is a breed for every lifestyle. Dont choose a dog because you like the way it looks. The animal must match you!!

Cats are a bit easier, they are independant and crap in a box. They clean themselves and dont need a fixed schedule from you. They do get lonely just like a dog though.

Fish? I dont think I have to elaborate. If you ever want to come into a house thats full of animals just to see how they interact and what might be good for you, you are always welcome to come by, provided you like beer.

As for sleepless nights and nightmares - I never had them. I always had pets. Occasionally I see the dogs staring at something in the corner and if they dont like what they see, they go apeshit. I just give them a treat. Most people that come over to our place say that its a good and calming atmosphere. And they say this b4 I pump them full of booze and I am convinced that the animals in my house are to thank for that.

LMFAO!!
Herman u R one funny mofo!!:D I cant imagine how u must be wen ur drunk!!

I totally agree w/ the cat vs dog vs cat...Ive had at one point 8 cats(these guys can F like rabbits. spay/neuter your females. i cant cut the balls off my males though) a pit, rotty, and a siberian husky, followed by a 75G FOWLR

each animal type had a different aspect to them, I would never be able to have all that now, but at least I know what I can have (due to time constraints) and what can fit the bill mutually for the animal and me.

So consider your dream, but dont go and get a dog and know that you will not have the time for it, maybe a tank is all the "pet" you need right now. The ghosts may or not be real;) but the animal happiness will be.

I know I get sick of my tank sometimes, im sure we all do, but eventually i find myself looking forward to get home because its there

LOL Herman, thats that the girl looked like exactly!
wow, i didnt see how many people responded. THanks to all! I'm both serious (thanks master) and light-hearted about the matter. Again, I see the concensus is keep the tank but the dog part is a lil' divided. To answer Rborgia's question, my mom's a retired cook so she's always home (yep, she used to be a chef...I know what you're all thinking, lucky bastard). Well, I'm going to keep the tank and the dog part will just have to be reconsidered. Thanks for keeping thing light-hearted and helpful. Can't wait to meet all of ya'll in the frag swap.

P.S.- I loathe cats...I had one scratch my face as a kid...that puss...:bigeyes2: :joke:

:P you could have had a dog bite your face as well, then you would have been screwed, you would have to own a bird...hehe

if you get a puppy your mom will fall in love with it then you won't have to worry about paying the vet bills, just don't try to take the dog with you if you move.

what about a cat fish? ;)

Well, I have 2 reef tanks. Plus a freshwater. Plus a turtle pond (w/ 7 turtles, they move into the basement in the winter, 2 more tanks). 2 parrots and a cockatiel. And a dog. And 2 boys and a wife. That last one is the expensive one!
Anyway, you want what you want. I would never give my dog up for anything.
Oh, and I have a full time job.
