I found a site that sells these fish for these prices. The store is located in Tenafly NJ and they allow pick up. I spoke to the guy who owns it and I'm a little confused though. He tells me they have over 50 Achilles tangs in their warehouse yet I can't pick mine out? They have to go get it then bring it to the store for me. What the hell is that about?

Apparently they're only good if you want to buy a tang. None of their other pages work.
I talked to the guy and asked him about the other pages not working, He said he is just starting out and still working on the site. He told me he had tons of fish avaliable though. Sounded like a kid on the phone around 20 or so. I could be wrong on that though. I know the purple tang worked out for the one guy, other than that I haven't heard anything else.

So here is my take on this since I may have some insight. There is a major wholesaler in NJ and what I am thinking is the case with this operation is that he is merely working off the wholesaler's availability. He gets his fax/email each week, adds a percentage, and posts it as if it were in stock. Some stores do this to help drive some of the more expensive fish sales without assuming the risk of losing the fish themselves. You buy it, they go pick it up, and you have your fish at a significant discount. I don't know if they have any tanks in their location or what the exact deal is but running an entire operation based on such a tiny margin doesn't allow for guarantees or discounts or anything like that so most of these types of businesses either stay small or go out. I'm not saying this is exactly what the deal is I'm just saying this is what it looks like. It's the equivalent of drop shipping in the fish business.

:shhh: It feels much better, when you lose a 'cheap' one!
Don't know if that is a shot at me or someone else or what. I just posted what they were selling them for. Never said I was gonna buy one. But Albano I did have 2 of them and one lived for 12 years and the other for 7. Those were the only 2 I ever bought. By the way when I bought mine they were 40 bucks.

Nothing wrong with that...Thats how MANY of the online vendors operate. You send the order, they pick it up, or even ship it direct from the importer, to you. Even the famous LiveAquaria (not Divers Den), sells all it's fish, direct ship from a Calif. warehouse/importer.
It's a safe bet, that no LFS has 100 flame angels available, never mind 300!
Don't know if that is a shot at me or someone else or what.
ABSO-Fn-LUTY NOT...was kidding, I'd rather lose the 'cheap' $100 tang, than the same fish from a certain store in Greenwich, that would cost you $300+

find out whats the deal here. how much are purple tangs from this dude? maybe we can havea group buy on some fish;)
The smalls start at 65, I'm thinking the guy is not a wholesaler by the price of other fish, Gold Rim tang 100.00 bucks. In the LFS's I see them from 40-80. Yellow tangs for 37.00 I see them for 29-40. So they are not wholesale prices on everything. By the way these are prices for smalls. I believe the powder blue was 100 also. So some fish are great prices while others are average and some are off the charts. So this is leaning me towards not a wholesaler. But the purple and achilles prices are unheard of.

Do you know that 5-6 years ago, we were importing large Achilles tangs from a Hawaiian diver for $17 + shipping
Prices have skyrocketed. There were at least 4 MR members here that got them but no one was able to keep them alive for long.
