Bob Sheppard just announced "NOW ENTERING THE HOUSE THAT GOD BUILT, THE OWNER OF THE NEW YORK YANKEES GEORGE STEINBRENNER"
The best owner in all of sports. He made his share of mistakes. Like all of us. But in the end he cared for his team and fans more. he put his profits back into his team. not to many owners do that. R.I.P george
A great owner who put his life into building a great team!!! If it wasn't for George we would have missed out on some of the best baseball ever played!!!!!! RIP
I have been a Yankee fan since '65 and for those of you not old enough to remember, the Yankees were atrocious in the late 60's and mid 70's. I used to go to every Sunday doubleheader and if it was a giveaway day they might have drawn 12,000. In 1965, they finished in 7th place, 27? GB the first place Twins (no divisions back then). CBS ran the team into the ground and it wasn't until George bought the team did they return to respectability. I know that has was reviled by the fans of other teams but deep down in their hearts they are jealous that their team is not owned by a person as passionate about winning as George. And how do I know this? I am an Islander fan and wish that Wang had one-tenth the passion that Steinbrenner had. RIP.
