Sprint Paying Early Termination Fees?

Ok got into an argument at work about this so hear me out. With all the Tech people here I hope you prove me right. One of my fellow workers keeps saying that Spring paid his 200 ETF to get him back as a customer from AT&T I told him he was smoking crack.

Is there any truth to this? Are they really paying ETF's?

I've heard of phone companies doing this via extra discount/rebate on the phone so the ETF is a wash but I have not personally seen it.

Not sure of the phone company... But cablevision paid $280.00 to DirectTV to get me back as there customer... So yes it is possible.

nah, this was from the chiefs personal stash.

Would not surprise me as that 4G network is a bust.4G is a long way from taking over 3G but it'll happen eventually.

Company's are definitely doing this. When my company had Verizon wireless phones AT&T shelled out close to $2,000 to pay our ETF's so we could sign on with them

Sprint knocked off $20 a month from my bill for the next 12 months to keep me as a customer.So it's not far fetched at all desparate times call for desparate measures.T-Mobile is in trouble as we speak.

While we are talking about Sprint:

How do they get away with charging people with the new EVO an extra $10 for 4G, when 4g is non existent in major cities like NYC and San Francisco?

Chief: When I was thinking of switching back to verizon due to the dropped calls on my iphone, verizon told me that they legally can't offer to pay me my termination fees but that they could heavily discount the phones...at the time I was thinking of getting the motorola droid and am glad I didn't.

Cablevision is always knocking on my door asking me to come back and offering to pay the verizon fios early termination fee.
