If you live in suffolk county, you might want to take your catalytic converter with you when you go places.

Some schmuck cut mine out this morning while I was at work.

I got into my truck at lunch, started it, and it sounded like I was at the race track. Look underneath, half of my exhaust is gone.

I thought, did somebody steal me freakin exhaust? Noooo... who would do that, and in broad daylight, semi-busy parking lot.

Got to my mechanic, and confirmed saw marks.

People suck.

Should I even bother calling Geico? Do policies usually cover stuff like this?

And even if they do, I think my deductible is $500, so it will be a virtual wash.

I could have bought some nice stuff for my tank with that repair money.

alot of dealerships were hit last year, we had 13 stolen at our's, they contain valuable metal in them, and yes you might want to call your insurance company, they can run anywhere from 500-2000 apiece, plus if they cut it off your going to need the front pipe and mid pipe more then likely as well

+1 cats are worth money, but the prices for used one's have dropped alot lately, so you have a really dumb theif, you can call your dealer and get the price before calling your insurance company it might me cheaper but highly doubt it, if its a dodge chrysler jeep let me know i work at a dealership for them and can get you a break

triple if you havent replaced it yet lmk year make and model of the car, i work at a dealership and can buy stuff at cost

Thanks NYreefNoob. Fixed it already, but it was a 98 4Runner.

My mechanic suggested Meineke, since they could readily weld in a replacement. Replacing all of the damaged peices with bolt-on replacements was going to add up to a lot.

Meineke quoted $550 for the converter itself, before labor. But they replaced from everything from just before the converter, to the tailpipe, for $675 complete.

Seems like it was a fair price, I guess, and the truck sounds better than it has in a long time.

I'm trying my company's HR department to see if the company will reimburse me for lousy working conditions.

So if you have a 4Runner, or some other SUV... watch out people! :irked:
