hey all,
im goin down to miami for a convention and figured id suprise my girl with a trip down to the keys to check out the reefs. we can only really spend a day there cause we have to get back for work. so any recommendations on places to check out? were not scuba certified so if theres like a sweet crash course followed by a dive thad be great. and depending on how the convention goes, we may be low on cash so cheaper is definitely better. ha. also if theres any intense LFS's we should check out down there.
also, i feel dumb asking this question but has the oil spill had any major effect on the keys yet?

) so you should be fine. If you really want to surprise your GF you should really go to Dry Tortugas for a day trip, but that will cost you above $300 for two. It's a closer than everywhere else reef experience because the water there is shallow and the whole island is just plain beautiful. The ferry departs from Key West (google dry tortugas ferry)and parking is next to it. If you can't afford that I suggest you going to Bahia Honda State Park and take a snorkel trip there, then go to the beach and snorkel right off of it, plenty of marine life to see. Hope that helps.
