mystic seaport/ aquarium

hes anyone been to mystic seaport/ aquarium in conneticut lately? i havent been there in several years and i was wondering if its still worth going, i want to bring my girlfriend and her 2 boys but dont wanna take a 2 1/2 hour drive if its gone downhill since last visit.

Save your time. There are guys on this site that have more interesting displays in their homes. Mystic is fine if you are in the area or will be doing something else, like visiting the seaport. The aquarium is very small, and like most things in CT overhyped. If it were me, I would drive to the NY aquarium, spend the day looking at the displays and watching the shows, and then walk the boardwalk, have a Nathans dog and maybe even spend a little time at the amusement park. YMMV

Oh by the way, I just re-read your post. You realize that the aquarium and the seaport are two different attractions, in different parts of the town. They are not attached and have separate entrance fees. The aquarium is $28 per adult and the seaport is nearly as much still.

yeah i know they are seperate, but i figured we would hit them both in the same day.

If you do go and love seafood, don't miss Abbott's Lobster in the Rough. It's a cool fast food seafood restaurant (shack).

They do dolphin shows, and used to do a show with the belugas. I'm not sure what the deal is with the whales these days because they had loaned a few to Mysitc and they killed them. I dont know if all the whales are gone or they have been replaced. Whats really nice about the NY aquarium is that there is a main building and several separate buildings. You get to spend some time outdoors walking between the buildings, sitting at picnic tables having a bite and the theater is also outdoors.

I dont agree with you. As far as aquariums go, its pretty nice, and will make for a nice day with the boardwalk and all. Ive been to lots of aquariums, and they are not zoos, they are generally small and limited in their displays. If he wants to look at fish, there arent that many choices in the area.

there is not that much fish there..there's alot of fat and hairy creatures lol walrus, sea lion etc. BORRRRINGGGG..I took my kid there and even he wasn't feelin it and he's 2! I went to the one in Boston I was not overly impressed with that one either but it was def 10 steps up from coney island. They got a humongous cylinder tank from the bottom to the top of the building w/ I think it was over 1000 species in it sharks,sea turtles,huge triggers,puffers,rays eels etc They have some nice corals,they have sea dragons. They also had a sea turtle hatchery, they had all the baby's in lil kiddie pools flappin around it was pretty cute.

I thought it wasn't worth the money at first at Atlantis in LI until i hit the reef tank display. I was rushing through all the other shows... yes, the reef tank is well worth the admissions price. I was starring at that tank for over 2 hrs and my gf kept taking pictures of the corals.

Go to Atlantis in Long Island. It is well worth the trip.

Well looks like ill just have to pick one and hope for the best as i already told the kids we were going and now they wont leave my along about it, me and my big mouth!!!!!
