Hello All, I have recently completed my B.S. in accounting and I am searching for a job. If anyone knows of any firms hiring or any open position within a company, please let me know. Any help would be appreciated, thank you. Gregg

Gregg,

Not sure of your background but where are you in terms of CPA certification. You say you recently graduated but are you eligible to take the exam with out the 150 Credit requirement?

If you didn't meet the cut off, you are going to have to go back and complete your MS in Accountancy or Tax (whichever concentration you are in) for an accounting position assuming you want to make partner eventually.

Anyway, there are a few positions from headhunters on Monster.com you may want to take a look. Mostly Midsize to Small accounting firms because the Big 4 have completed their recruiting season for undergrads... until they kick back into overdrive in the fall

I can sit for the exam because I fall in the middle of the new requirements. I am graduating with 147 undergrad credits, but I will have to take a couple classes at the masters level. I applied for everything posted on Monster and Career builder, but I was just looking for more information. I just applied for PWC and I am going to apply for the others also. I have experience outside of accounting, in banking. I am an older graduate, at 34, and earned my degree attending full-time in the evenings, after work. I am definatley going to take the exam, because my goal is to become a CPA. Thank you for the advice!!! The search continues.

FYI The three that you are missing can be any 3 credit class does not have to be a masters class. Plus you can register now to take the exam you just wont be certified. You have to work under a CPA for atleast a year before you are certified.

I am aware of the 1 year under a CPA, that is what I am looking for now. I am going to register to take the exam, that is great, I only need one course then. I will probably go for my MBA at some point anyway, thanks for the info.

Okay good, now that there is some background.

I wonder if you qualify for internships (if you do... by all means apply). Did you try the smaller firms yet (not on Monster). ERE, RSM, etc.

Try the state too Gregg.. My old roommate works for the Albany office of Taxation and Finance. Not sure if they're going to hit the furloughs or job cuts like the other depts... I think you can take the civil service exam. Also, check out USAjobs (.com).

Finally, I'm going to make the plug for Recruiting/Staffing Agencies. Just be careful who you go with (research first).. as some are more 'difficult' than others... I work in Healthcare now or I'd be able to help out more.

Wish I could help more, but it sucks that it's mid summer. From my experience (all the positions I applied for at the Big 4) was done on campus. Generally speaking, straight out of undergrad hiring is completed around Fall with the occasional spots opening up in Spring for those that deferred their offers.

I am hoping that my banking experience will help. I am older at 34 so I cannot take an unpaid internship, due to my mortgage, which leaves me at a disadvantage. The one thing I do have is an exeptional work ethic, so hopefully that will help in the end. Like I said, I appreciate the advice and I will keep on searching. Thanks again
