The license thing is kind of ridiculous this year... But hey at least it will keep all the weekend warriors from tangling up with everyone!
How does everyone catch their stripers? I've been trolling around Rye for the past 2 years and it catches a nice 34-45 inch cow every time!

I hear the striper season this year is amazing. The charters I go on are bringing back people who catch their limits. I still have to find time to go out this year. It's been a bit busy at work which is good. :D

Yep. Been in effect since October 2009 I believe. It's 10 bucks a year for saltwater fishing. Though I think crabbing doesn't require the license.

Picked up my licence a few weeks ago -10 bucks is better than the fine. My buddy with a boat moved out too far Rockaway last year so its very hard for me too get out there with conflicting days off. He said that they have been boarding his boat a lot recently checking permits and his fish wells. We always follow the rules and 90% of the time release whatever we catch. So i have resorted to shore fishing down the block from my home. It's a lot different but is equally enjoyable if your catching. My friends say that their is normally a lot of action, but i haven't caught anything in the 4 times i have went so far. Couple of run offs but it has still been very cold. I'm going to look into some charters in the next few weeks because i'm itching to do some boat fishing

definitely need to look into a new surf rod while im at it

Went fishing twice this season...out in Cutchogue. Early April had some bunker, but nothing on them. Friday and yesterday I had some luck...Friday night I got a 3.25lb blue and a tiny bass, and yesterday morning I got a 25" bass and a 6.25 lb blue....it was very mild and tasty...had the remains of what was either a schoolie bass or a weakfish in its belly. I just fish from shore with light tackle (10lb test).

I need to post some of my catches. THe striper season is crazy this year, already have a few 35lbs and up. Fluke season opened in NJ today, going this week for some. The liscense thing in NY is retarded but will be here next year. You still have to register in NJ though. Been looking at a new boat also. Found a nice 27' foot Grady White, 2000 with twin 250 yamahas on it.
