WOW i have to say having 2 expensive hobbies is not easy.my poor tank took a beating this year.i had a ton of cyano bacteria growing that i am now getting rid of the natural way and since i got rid of the filefish after 4 months i again have a aiptasia garden growing..i will be getting another 1 when my parameters are back to normal.3 corals made the ultimate sacrafice due to my 2nd hobby which will missed.other then that my livestock is doing fine.my 2 clams are looking great and my 2 anemones are looking good as well.anyway in the next few weeks i will be adding some new livestock items and get my tank back to its old form...

LOL....Something tells me I know exactly the way you feel. How did you do this season? I only got a spike on 10/25, but I'm still happy about it. Dressed out at 141#'s surprisingly. Also had a brief encounter with a black bear while going into my stand one afternoon. Right now, my tank is getting some much needed attention too. I'm even debating doing a 60g rimless in my living room.

I am on the same page as you two! My season ended a few weeks ago. I harvested a nice 8 pointer out in Long Island on 10/25 also. Now its back to the tank! I can't wait until I upgrade from my 45 gallon. Im thinking a 125 rimless.

I agree! The bucks were not active at all in the area I was hunting. The only nice buck I saw in 3 months of hunting was the 8 pointer I took. All summer long the sightings were unbelieveable..I mean I saw six 8-12 pointers in a bachelor group multiple times! Once the fall hit they were nowhere to be seen. I can't wait until next year, hopefully those same bucks will be around.

For the most part, I saw deer throughout the season. Mostly women and children though. Due to a vacation scheduling mix up, I wasn't in the woods when I wanted to be (11/9-11/13). Unfortunately, my trail cameras gave me the news that some nice bucks were finally active during the day that week. One of them would have presented me with a perfect 20yd broadside shot. As much as I love trail cameras, this was one time I wish I didn't use them.

Any one else here use trail cams?

Here's a few pics from this past year. Some of the dates are incorrect. I guess the cold makes some of these cameras freak out.

Pic 1: 7 pointer on the trail...Date/Time not correct.
Pic 2: Does in our food plot...Date/Time correct.
Pic 3: Real nice 8 pointer on the trail I hunt...Date/Time correct. Yes that's snow.
Pic 4: Black Bear...Date/Time correct. Bear is looking into a food plot. He stood there for enough time for over 40 pictures to be taken of him.
Pic 5: Same nice 8 pointer on the same trail intersection as pic 1. God I hope that deer made/makes it to next season!

1-Compared to other recreational activities, hunting injuries are far more likely to be fatalities. Approximately 100 people die in hunting accidents in the United States every year, and unlike other forms of recreation, hunting endangers the entire community, and not just the willing participants.

2-Hunting is ineffective for solving human/deer conflicts. Studies show that car/deer collisions increase during hunting season because hunters frighten the deer out of the woods and onto roads. Contrary to popular belief, hunting does not address Lyme disease because the ticks are usually spread to humans by mice, not deer. And as long as suburban landscaping includes deer-preferred plants such as tulips and rhododendrons, that landscaping will attract hungry deer, no matter how many deer there are. Also hunting does not reduce the deer population because removing some individuals from the population results in more food per deer, which leads to the births of more twins and triplets. This also means that hunting is unnecessary because the deer will self-regulate and give birth to fewer fawns when food is scarce. If the deer population needs to be further reduced, immunocontraception can be used.

3-Hunting is ineffective because state wildlife management agencies intentionally keep the deer population high, for hunters.

4-Lands managed for hunting are sometimes purchased and maintained with tax dollars, even though 95% of Americans do not hunt.

Not to mention that it is UNETHICAL because the killing is recreational. Human/deer conflicts are NOT the fault of the deer, but are the fault of humans who take habitat from the deer. Modern technology has erased any chance of fairness in hunting.

Riddle me this....
How much fun is it to watch a defenseless animal get their brains splattered all over the place?

Here we go another knowitall..obviously you missed the part RIGHT BEFORE YOUR SENSELESS POST where he said he EATS the deer. Ever heard of Venison? It's damn good too! How is it unethical to kill deer if you eat it? Not to mention the fact 1 deer usually lasts several months. I'm sure you enjoy a nice cheeseburger several times a week ,maybe even a steak or two. How bout chicken or Pork? I don't see you breaking down the doors of Tyson, Oscar Meyer, Perdue or any other mass meat/poultry producer. So before you go and make an idiot out of yourself why don't you think about the things you eat every day because those are brutalized as well but noone ever seems to care about those animals it's always the "cute" ones. You're one of those "OOOO THEY SHOT BAMBI!" people aren't you? The hunter in that movie probably ate bambi too,99.9% of people who hunt eat their kill. The .1% that do it just to kill something maybe put a head on the wall, take the skin whatever fine those guys are total D-bags I'm with you on that. Just don't be hypocritical to people who eat deer when I'm sure you eat many other woodland/farm creatures.

sounds like someone is a PETA member.accidents on the road do not happen due to hunters going into the woods.its the rut when bucks are chasing does around to mate.thats why 90% of deer that are killed in accidents are doe"s.its not a recreation just to kill deer its for the meat.a deers meat is 95% lean and is 1 of the healthiest red meats to eat.hunters spend alot of money on equipments and alot of the money collected is given back for preservation of wildlife.area like long island westchester have very little natural predators which if it was not for hunters the populatiion would be way out of control which in some counties are already way overpopulated..driving is considered a recreational activity and im pretty sure more then 100 people a year die doing that.and dont more then 100 people a year die from lightning strikes a year.someone got to you to make you feel this waybut you should really look into other sources before u speak bad about hunting.i know when im out bowhunting i am truly at peace with nature and wildlife in general.and unlike what many people believe hunters do not go out and kill anything that maves.i am very particular on the deer i harvest.they must be mature ,thanks for reading my thread.

But deer meat tastes so good. I wish I could eat it more than a few times a year.
