Last couple years, I have travelled couple states and conducting business, meeting people and such.
One major thing I notice in NY is the attitude of people are very different from the states I visited. NY is the only state, amoung PA(Phili), Florida(Orlando) and Kansas(Kansas City), people would say this phrase, "If you don't like this place so much, get the F**K out of here". In Kansas, I can see discrimination is severe in some area but people will generally say, "I am sorry you don't like it here".
Another major thing, is the ability of general workers (did not have chance to deal with high executives in those states). In Orlando and Kansas City, they are excellent workers. I went to Costco(I think), the OLD lady in the front doing the people count clicks and checking ID will greet me with, "Welcome to (Costco), what can I do for you?" I replied, "I am here to look at some 52" range Plasma. She then point me(actually took my hand) to the 52" TV and start telling which one is good or not good. When I told her I come to look at a particular model because it looks similar to the other one in the ad of BestBuy. She told me they are the same just that the manufacturer are now IDing the sale channel by using different model numbers. WOW, how knowledgable for a greeting door lady! I did the same in in NY's Costco. The doorman, of course, knew nothing of the where about of the items even though they are only 20 feet away. The salesman for that particular TV section told me, "they are all listed on the tag, check there" and walks aways real quick(should I say run). I also once experienced this in J&R where I usually feel the saleman are good. I asked to listen to some Bose speakers in the hearing room. The salesman refused. I have to call Corporate Sale and the manager of the department call right to the retail and tell the salesman to turn on the demo. Try to ask for help in Homedepot in Flushing-it will be a memorable experience. I am thinking of filming a documentary about this. LOL. This seems to indicate jobs are VERY abundant in NY that salesman(general workers) never feared for loosing their jobs, so they have no need to serve nor improve their own product/business knowledge nor the attitude.
Salary higher of lower? I did not compare directly but here is the real life example-you tell me after you compared the numbers. In Kansas, I posted an ad for hiring reception with high school education or above. $10 per hour, 8 hours a day, SAT OT 1.5 times. Only 2 persons, who did not graduate in high school, called in 2 weeks. It ends up $14 per hour before I can get the reception. The salesman and reception I got there are perfectly on time, work OT on their own without asking to pay them extra. I hired the reception to block sales call more than serving my own clients. LOL. That seems to me that they are true to their jobs(especially cold callers), respect it, have a great wish to improve their skills and probably also fear to loose their jobs.
In Orlando, the gas is $2.67 for the most expensive one, a week ago. cigarettes are $4.X per pack but no one smoke there. In NY, 6/7 out of 10 visited my open house smoke. Probably people in Florida smoke something else. Chinese take out box is $4.5, Vietnam sandwich $3.50, McDonald Deluxe Breakfast x 2 and an Ice Mocha $6.XX altogether!!!!! New house rental < $1500 with wood flooring, looks like 50 feet x 50 feet house, 2 floors The master bedroom is similar in size with a floor of most Brooklyn Bensonhurst Houses. Ha, but I think the most crowded places would be Disneyland or may be World Wild Coral. I got no chance to visit neither. I am only 5 mintues away from Universal Studio but still got no chance to go. Oh, one more trick, don't just buy ticket at the booth. There are many ways to get lower rate tickets if you asked around-in fact, people offer the service if they know you are out of town visiting. I worked with couple law enforcement guys down there and seems not much bossing around to the general citizens. Young people who visited my friend's Billard/KTV there really drink soda and avoid anything alcohol, LOL. The reverse is true in NY, young people ask for liquor and frick out when the servers refuses. LOL. I cannot help laughing about this because even my young artists hate me for not letting them drink liquor.
