If you have the money to invest in New York Real estate, let me say, right now, the best places to invest would be the upper east side and harlem. I'm predicting especially the upper east side above 70th street around york and 1st ave. Right now, that neighborhood, the far east of upper east side is the cheapest place to live. You can still find 1400 studios for rent there and studio apartments can still be bought for well under $1000 per sq ft. It's not a convenient place to live but with the new 2nd ave train in motion, after that project is finished (who knows how long that will take) the upper east side prices in housing will follow the trend of the rest of manhattan which means good news if you own up there. As far as harlem, it's booming. Luxury high rises are shooting up all around the low 100's- 120's. Crime will slowly but surely get flushed out and your investment will appreciate well. Just like your tank!

yeah two of those f-ing hi rises shooting up right outside my window, :irked: totally out of character with the neighborhood. be careful putting your money into fringe areas, cause when prices drop, their value won't hold up.

oh man, you have no idea!! I'm at 100/bway, where that building under demolition collapsed a few months back. one of the two 40-story towers is going up literally outside my living room window and another across the street. 7am on the dot every weekday the machines turn on, the latest project is chipping away at the bedrock. so loud you can't hold a conversation in the lobby. it is a good thing i am usually on the way to work by that time. monday at 5am they were delivering a bigger bulldozer with tracks that hadn't been oiled like ever, so i awoke to what sounded like a tank rolling down the street. :banghead:

when all said and done i will completely lose my south facing window in my living room, the only window in my bathroom and 90% of the morning light in both living room and bedroom due to the tower across the street.

at least i rent!!!!

Saucz I fear you maybe right but I do hope for our sake you're wrong(about the east side). My girlfriend lived in some little ****-hole studio on 71st and York for a bargain price of $1400 per month. It took her a while to realize that her $1400 per month live in closet was retarded and we moved to a larger water front apt in Rockaway for much cheaper. I understand the attractions to live in Manhattan but I don't understand how people can live in such confined quarters, packed in like ants, and pay huge $$ for it.

I know, it's really ridiculous how much people pay to live in the city. As far as how big or small a space is, someone from kansas that's used to 1000 sq ft for 800 a month will probably flip when he sees what that'll get him in the city... lol
