I'm in the market for a new camera as well. I saw a sony at best buy with 12 (or 10)x opitcal zoom, and it took a macro shot with something sitting on the lens. Talk about close up! I've got to do some research and free up some funds before I buy though.

I had (have, it only works sometime) the digital elph. (s400) and I liked it for it's size. But I don't have much control over my shots.

I've used several digital camera's all where sufficient. but I did just buy a sony dcs-W7 which absolutely rocks best camera I ever been close too. also takes video has a large screen, you name it, it has every feature imaginable. Highly recomended. I bought it online from B&H Photo great deal arrived withiin aday.
also recomend you really buy the best possible media stick for your camera, your camera is only as good as your media. also get the largest capacity you can afford these new camera;s with there higher resolutions really eat media space for breakfast
I bought a 2gb it cost almost as much as the camera. but it is well worth it. I can take and hour of video and 550 pictures and the highest res(7.2mgp)
Good luck

whats the most important thing to look for in a camera? From what I have heard a camera with 3 MP and a fast shutter speed will take 10x better pictures than a 8 MP cemera with slow shutter speed. Is there any truth to this? What should I look for in a camera and does anyone know anything about the Fuji S602?

Mak,

I use an Olympus e-20 5mp and have gotten great results like this pic of a blenny in my tank. If you do get a canon keep in mind that the small lens of those P&S are going to make for longer exposures, so use a tripod and you'll be amaze the difference it makes.
