Someone I know, actually my daughter's last boss has an adopted daughter that will die in a month or so if she doesen't get find a bone doner. She was on TV this morning.
She adopted a little girl from Africa and now she is six and has a rare form of cancer. She needs a bone graph from an African American. I am not African American so I can't donate.
If anyone is willing, here is the story from the News.

Pedro, WOW thanks, that was a lot of work.
Paul

Here is more about her
http://www.oneforjasmina.com/

Hi Paul
Your most kind, but I'm still siting here, logged to manhattanreefs, reefforum, MOFIB, SPS....and I keep the web page you first posted about jasmina opened...I couldn't close it...:sad2:....and I'm still trying to figure out how to further help...I've reached the legal limit of age to be a donor over here, but I don't care as that would surely not be an obstacle!...and although not being of African ascent, we are all human beings...well I know that because of genetics in this case being a caucasian might limit even further the chances, still...:sad2:

I found some more information that could be helpful

a bone marrow donors forum http://www.marrowforums.org/ and another one http://www.cancerforums.net/about5071.html

here's more http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf?/base/news-17/1234778158241470.xml&coll=1

Can Theodora Amena tel us more about Jasmina's origins, like which part of Africa?

I sent Jasmina a Happy Birthday e-mail

Pedro Nuno:sad2:

Thanks Pedro, the story was just again on Access Hollywood and the news show before it.
She's got some celebrities helping now so I hope they get her some help.
I know there are plenty of kids with this disease.
On Christmas eve I always play Santa for the children in NYU, They have a childrens cancer ward for the kids where all other treatments failed. The vast majority never go home.
I know this is just one child. I don't know her very well but I do know her and I just wanted to put this out there. We can't help all the kids with this but maybe we can make a difference with a few of them.

Helping one, adds hope for many. Many thoughts with this child and her family and friends that their hope lies within someone that will find their way to them.

There is nothing worse than the feeling of helplessness when it comes to the well being of a child. Many good thoughts and prayers for this little one and her family.

My daughter volunteered to swab cheeks for possable Donors yesterday and she said they had so many people trying to donate that they needed almost 100 volunteers to process people. This is great not just for yasmina but for anyone who needs a bone marrow transplant.
I found out I can't donate and neither can my wife.
Yasmina has a rare form of Leukemia that will never be cured and never go into remission. I think thats why she got so much media attention. But it does bring attention to this disease and make people get tested in case they are ever a match for someone else.

Hi Paul
I feel both happy and sad:sad2:...happy because people showed their best attitude which is help others in distress and that in a disinterested way, a way I very much prize. Sad because if I well understood your words...

well as far as science is concerned I always belived that if we can imagine it, it can be done and even if we can't imagine it but want to do it, it can be done...and throughout the years I've seen many impossible things become possible, even if there were scientits saying it would never be possible...perhaps now but one day it will be possible...the words are not mine but "YES WE CAN!!!"

Cheers
Pedro Nuno:sad2:

Thanks Pedro.
Lets hope that all of this comes to some good.
I am now at an age where many of my close friends from childhood are coming down with ailments which i am sure will become larger ailments in the future and start eliminating us. It is normal and as long as we lived a long relatively healthy life, nothing to get too concerned about.
But when we see children, not even teenagers getting these things, it is just depressing and not fair.

Here is an E Mail I just reseived from Yasmina's Mom's friend who was at the event.

Hey Everyone:

Thanks to everyone who joined the registry today and thanks to the
volunteers who made this all possible. YOUR HARD WORK REALLY PAID
OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jasmina's drive was a HUGE success! We
registered 1600 potential donors, raised approximately $40,000 and we
got an incredible amount of press coverage. Thea was blown away!

In addition to family and friends, it was so nice to see the hundreds
of strangers who desperately wanted to help Jasmina! I heard the
most incredible stories from the volunteers. My sister told me a
story about a woman who was practically house bound because she has
so many phobias. By the time she got to the drive, she was sweaty
and shaking from making the trip, but she made it because she was
desperate to help Jasmina. She explained that she had almost died
several years before and a stranger saved her by giving her blood and
now she wanted to save Jasmina by giving her marrow.

Unfortunately Jasmina had some bad news, Her white blood cell count went down drastically. She was supposed to be transfered to Sloan Kettering to get the bone transplant but I don't think they can do it with her blood count so low.
I understand she can't really speak anymore because of the sores in her mouth.
I don't know what else they are going to try
