I have been going to a gym since I started my fish tank. I am still waiting for that keg to go away and for the 6 pack to emerge.
Maybe one more year.
Going to the gym is tough for a guy. Especially if there are a bunch of nice looking girls there.
It gets tiring pulling in your belly whenever one of them passes.
This morning I doing curls, I dont know why but it always seems like the thing to do. I was using a 20lb dumbell and this youngish girl (younger than me anyway) came near me and also started working out with the dumbells. I was quietly counting to myself
1,,,2,,,3,,,4 but when I saw the body on this girl I had to pick up the pace. She looked like one of those Babes in those superhero movies. She was counting out loud as she was lifting,
15,,,16,,,17,,,18,,,19 so as I continued lifting I said 20,,,21,,,22.
I knew I couldn't keep this up for long and I am happy she stopped at 25.

She finally left and I could breathe out again.
Then as I was catching my breath I noticed that they have 200lb dumbells. 200lb dumbells, who can lift a 200lb dumbell?
I used to be able to do that, No wait, that was in one of my dreams with Christi Brinkley.

I was a trainer at a gym up here in westchester while i was in college and the best advice I can give is that you should love the fact that those good looking women are at your gym. for exactly the reason you gave earlier - they make you work harder. the more time you spend trying to impress them, the more you will lift - which will get that keg out in no time.

I went to the gym for years. I stopped 3 years ago when my mom passed from pancreatic cancer.
I need to drag myself back. Maybe next week...

Everyone needs to put their ego aside and work their own workout. I curl 10-12lbs when I first start getting back into it. It is what it is and it takes time to get there...

Hot girls at the gym can be a problem. I tend to gawk :eek:

I stopped for about a year and started back again a few months ago and I also started curling one hand 12-15 lbs and the next day my arms were killing me. But in just a few weeks I am up to 25lbs which is where I will stay. I am not trying to look like swartzinegor just have his bank account.
I also cut down on the stairs, 102 floors was my goal because when I installed the fire alarm system in the Empire State Building in my 20s I walked up. Now I do 90. That was almost 40 years ago and I don't have an ego just a desire to keep healthy.:tongue1:
I don't stay nearly enough time in the gym but my wife is coming with me tomorrow so I have to practice my grunting. It's not the amount of weight you lift, it's the loudness of the grunts that determine your workout level.
My wife has a lifetime membership to Balleys and it cost her $5.00 a month. She has been going 4 times a week for three decades.
It's like I used to tell my boss, It's not who you know or what you know, it's what you think I know. :tongue1:

Hey Paul ive been in the gym/training game for many years, and have played college football as well fought competativiely (just stating because weightlifting has been a large part of my life for over a decade) and my opinion is to get a good training program from a smart non steroid using trainer. Try not to use programs from bodybuilders because our bodies often cant recover the way theirs do while using anabolic agents. Also keeping a log of what you do and trying to better each week and modify program after periods of time pass will greatly enhance your results.

As far as the girls go....just enjoy the show and realize most people are not even looking at what you do and to insecure themselves to be concerned about anothers rep count, or weight usage.

I go once in a while. Lately I stopped weightlifting and do just swimming. I'm a member of NYSC and go to the gym on 1601 Broadway with 18 yard pool and to the one in New Rochelle with about 24 yard pool. Can't force myself to excersize. Anyone wants to join me? I'm usually there around 4:00 PM...

OK big mistake going to the gym with my wife. She, of course had to introduce me to machines that I used to ignore. I think she invented some of these machines. There is this back thing that she insisted I needed to try. When she used it I had to throw water on it to cool it off so she diden't melt it.
I got on it and she cranked it up.
Now I am home. Did you ever feel like you were run over by
A large SUV with a fat person driving, and then the guy realized he hit you so he put it in reverse and ran you over again?
