Just a quick question for all you Nikon users. I am buying the Nikon D80 and just had a quick question about the lenses. If you had a choice between the Nikkor 70-300 VR or the 55-200 VR, which would you choose? It already comes with the 18-55mm lens ( am I going to be missing out on the 18-135 mm lens?) Sorry for all the questions. Just want to make sure I put my money on the best deal possible. I am going to Prague and Italy in March and would like to attempt to take good pictures.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

If I were you, since you are going away for vacation, get 18-200mm VR lense. I know it will cost about $700 but this is one of the best all around nikon lense. And it's pretty compact, you it's really easy to carry around. Believe me, you don't want to bring two lenses especially you are going to the europe trips, you need to walk alot.

55-200mm VR lense will cost you around $250ish and you can easily sell your kit lense, 18-55mm, for around $100. Invest around $300 more, you can get one fine around lense, 18-200mm VR.

BTW, if you like to take landscape picture, Sigma 10-20mm lense is excellent lense. Probably will cost you for $500.

And you should get 50mm 1.8f lense. Used usually cost less than $100 but it's excellent lense especially with low light, it's very fast lense and it's dirty cheap.

Goodluck with your europe trip. I've been to Prague long long time ago, and that's one of the most beautiful city in Europe.

Thanks so much for the response, exactly what I needed. My brain started going a mile a minute with all the different lenses and I started to confuse myself. I am actually Czech so I have been to Prague many times (I love it there) but have never been able to really take good pictures.
Thanks again, anyone else before I go to B&H this weekend

I agree with Savager the 70-300 might have a weight issue and even with the vr technology the 300 range will be hard to get without a tripod hence more weight.I own the D80 but I actually use a Panasonic Dmc-fz20 camera for vaca or trips Nice all purpose cam with built -in leica lens. Good luck with any choice and have a great Vaca.

Another alternate lenses you would consider if you are going to B and H.

Try out Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 lense. I heard so much good review on this lense. And it's very fast lense, so you can capture really good photo under low light situation. And 17mm isn't much wider than 18mm but it could help on your landscape picture.
