I got back yesterday from a hike that was supposed to cover the top of the state of NJ, ending up at High Point, NJ...

well, it was largely unsuccessful...got to the starting point @ greenwood lakes NY with no problems. The snow was coming down and im thinking this is great, well it wasent...lol. The snow covered over the ice sheets underneath on the trails and it took allot of extra time to navigate around, with a 35lb pack and me weighing in at 190 it was allot of weight to balance on ice so millage/hour was poor, as i finally made it to the first shelter.

The weather wasent too bad, little ice and rain but not too damp, well that changed too...around 10pm Monday nite im shivvvvvering my arse off, wake up to find (oh btw, when it gets dark hikers sleep, was asleep @ 7pm...lol) mist and condensation all inside my area and sleeping bag...when the warmer weather rolled in with the rain, and caused a fog with the melting snow and ice....so i froze...tues i figured to press on even though i was looking at a nites sleep w/o protection of a shelter out in the open. I finally reached an area on tues to stop for the nite, which is half way to the next shelter for Wednesday nite. Well the rain poured down, and from the rain and the freezing cold nite the ice sheets were worse as I took a spill as soon as i woke up...thats a bad omen...lol

So I finally decided to head home and cut the trip short....ill try again in march, prob much less ice...:sigh:

some pics of it snowing, after Monday i wasent in the mood(the time stamp wasent set properly)...

a pic of my starting point if you closely thru fog u can see greenwood lake and some bogs and streams, lastly the view from the Wawayanda Shelter.

Nice pictures.
I'm off tomorrow to climb a couple of the High Peaks in the Adirondacks. I'm expecting to have to break trail through almost 24" of fresh snow.

Here is a picture of me from last year when I fell into a spruce trap. I was wearing snow shoes and a pack.
