Being a native New Yorker we forget to take advantage of the things NY has to offer. I worked in the city for almost 40 years and really am not crazy about the crowds especially around this time of the year.
But yesterday we went to the Christmas show in Radio City as we do every 5 or 10 years. It is really worth the trip as I feel it is the best show we have. It is much different from the last time we saw it and watching 39 girls all dancing together is really nice.
We made a day out of it and of course saw the tree. Although I walk past it every day I rarely pay attention but when you are there just for that it seems more important.
After that we went to NYU hospital in midtown where I play Santa.
Now I guess we are going to the Statue of Liberty, another place where New Yorkers rarely go to. :cheekkiss

Tsinkoy I played on the 9th floor I think the east wing at the Children's cancer ward.
I played there for a few years.
It is an extreamly difficult place to try to be jolly but that is the job. As you know, many of those kids are in the last stages and too many of them just don't make it. People come from all over the world to be treated there. There was a little boy from Moscow who unfortunately was not doing too well and about half of the patients are infants.
We have to clean the toys with alcohol and a lot of the rooms I can just wave from the hall because they are in quarantine. It is very unfortunate that those kids will have to spend Christmas in such a state.:frown:
The guy who sets it all up works with my wife, his son was there a few years ago and he is fine now. So now he organizes this every year and we bring way more toys than there are kids. He is a very caring person and the two social workers there are just about the nicest two people I have ever met. I don't know how they do it every day.
I am also friends with the hospital administrator.
Where do you work there?
ps sorry for the depressing post a few days before Christmas
Cbrsorlo, I worked on the construction of the Trade Center and many times after that. The restaurant on the top floor was one of the best in NY

Hi PaulB. I work in a research floor at Skirball. That's a good thing that you do. I'm happy that I don't work with patients, because I know it's going to be very difficult for me.
