I was thinking of taking some scuba classes, theres thig guy on my facebook the diving fisherman he dives all the fishing spots and takes pics and vids.If I was able to get down there and look I think I could make myself a great blackfisherman instead of a good one.Its a great life on the water thats for sure.I never got to travel much I have been more places on the water than land. I used to love georges bank cod.

I started diving in Australia when I was on R&R from Nam and haven't stopped yet.
In New York, we used to get lobsters every week along with blackfish and flounders, all we wanted. There was no limit then.
We would dive where everyone was fishing and when we came up, all the fisherman would ask where all the fish were because they weren't catching anything and we used to say, Right here and hold up bags of fifty flounders. When the fish are full from eating grass shrimp, they won't bite on a hook.
I even had a sea urchin collection business.

There are plenty of soft corals in NY but they don't live in a tank even for an hour. I don't know any more places near you for SCUBA lessons as they go out of business fast, there is one on City Island and one here on Long Island near Roosevelt Field. I got certified in about 1974 from Central Skindivers but I don't know if they are still in business. My certification is good for everything and you can't get that any more.

Saltwaterinbrooklyn, (I was also born in Bensonhurst) thank you. I try to keep happy and busy and so far I have succeeded as I have many hobbies and a great wife.

jr973, I paid off my mortgage the week I retired so I have no debt. Of course I have Long Island taxes and marina fees but no car or house debt. You have to eliminate that before you retire. I also never paid anything on credit unless I had the cash in my pocket.
Now I also get "my" Social Security that I paid for all my life.

It is also important to stay healthy and I swim 900 yards 3 times a week and go to a gym.

I actually retired 5 years ago as per the first post. I worked much longer than 37 years but that was my last job. I am extreamly happy and very busy, but 96% of it is things I want to be busy with like working on my boat, inventing things, collecting in tide pools and chasing Victoria Secret Supermodels, but they are to fast. :Blurp:
