Ive been out of the camera/video loop for a while. I know that there is a lot of new technology out there so I need some help. I need some suggestions as to which camcorder and camera I should buy. I know, I know. Most people are going recommend the Nikon D40. That is a the only camera I do know about because it comes up in many reef conversations. My problem with the camera is that it is large and cumbersome. I would like something that has the same quality and options but that is easy to carry around w/ the baby. Any ideas. Thanks.

Wow, aquarium setting. I guess they are finally catching on to us. It looks like a decent camera.

Is Cnet like an online version of consumer reports? I'll check it out in a bit.

Thanks.

I have the Canon HV20 camcorder and Nikon D50. HV20 is a real nice HD camcorder and can take some stills on a microsd card if you don't have your camera handy.

I was actually looking at that same camcorder. It has gotten favorable reviews. How much did you pay? They have it for 1K @ Circuit city with 10% off.

Try to get the smallest and the lightest camcorder. I really don't know anything about the camcorder since I am satisfied with mine, which I bought it long time ago. I don't remember the model # but it's sony palm size one. I don't really carry about the quality that much, I would rather get the small and convenience.

I went on Cnet and did some comparisons. I ended up clicking on a few links and found one that compared pricing of a product. I found a place called http://www.access2digital.com/index...duct&ProductId=683&lead=PriceGrabber_2059B001 that has the camcorder for $692. The price sounds too good to be true. Anyone know of the place. The runner up was B&H photo.

I would not buy from sites like the first one you linked, stick with well known stores and online sites that give their address, and get good reports from consumers. between the two I'd buy from B & H for sure.

B&H is the best. Yes, you have to pay little extra but their service is the top.

I bought Cowon A2 video player few months ago. It went bad so I had to contact Cowon for the repair. However, after I contact Cowon several times, they never replied. So I called B&H, they couldn't give me Cowon's direct number but they pull some string and got the phone call from Cowon right away. Plus I lost my receipt which I need for the repair but B&H reprinted the receipt for me and send it to my place next day. Great customer service and they did stay til my player got fix even if it's not their responsibility.

I got mine the first week the HV 20 was out for $899. Was a misprint at PC Richards. Still at great deal now at 1k with your 10% off.

Like Jonathan said, stay away from those places like the plague. Pay a little more for the safety of reputable vendors. J&R has it for 899, (free) ship it to Jersey and save on taxes too.

I dont order too much from the internet. Is there a site that gives you info on on-line companies?

Savager, I definitely agree with you on size but I want quality too.

Honestly, if you are going with Canon or Sony or any other reputable company, quality is all great. Little minor stuffs that you can't really tell from naked eye. It's all depend of how easy to use and how easy to carry around especially you have a little baby.

Go with name brand. And try to see how easy you can operate. And how easy to carry around. Internet reviews are all great but you really have to feel the camcorder and test it out yourself.

Best place is either B & H or J & R. Both located in the city, and both place will let you play with the camcorders. Go there and play with it. If you narrow it down to 2 or 3 camcorders you like, then you can read about the review online.

Thanks. Im going to take your advice. It is one thing to read about something but it is a totally different story to actually get to use it first hand. Im really glad you said that. I guess I will have to wait until the weekend to go out and "play". lol.
