Duke, sorry to hear this, but it is very typical behaviour for a puppy. You can crate her when she is not being supervised. I have 3 pitbulls, famous for being chewers. I trained them by crating when we couldn't supervise, or when they were caught doing something wrong. They would be spoken sturnly, and sent to the "BOX".lol They quickly picked up on this. They love their crates, and sleep in them of their own accord. But when I punish them I would close the door to the cage. I believe closing the door is what got their attention.
Hope this helps, cause I cannot adopt another dog.lol We've run out of room.;)

dog chewing

get them a toy, they have these rubber bone's that are good for their teeth as well and almost indestructable, forget the name of them. never let it have a old shoe as a toy or your new shoe's might become toy's also. dog's comprehend single word commands eaiser and faster than saying several thing's at nce to them, be stern with how you say it also. as well as the crate training helps. or get a dog trainer, petsmart has class's also

Hi owner of 3 choclate labs

all at seperate times in my life...THIS IS PERFECTLY NATURAL FIRST OF ALL-

Not a whole heck of alot you can do unfortunately, except a firm "NO" always, use this same command and always use it when you catch him in a unwanted act...rooting in garbage, chewing a shoe etc...

2 years old is basically the time line for their chewing unfortunatly-

Some things a LAB MUST HAVE ARE TONS OF EXCERCISE, get a tennis ball and use it everyday for wind sprints and it will be a calm (er) animal for sure, the less it gets its run and excercise the more pent up nervousness it will be-

CHEW TOYS, rawhide is good (not too much though, keep in mind this stays in their bellies for awhile-

My best advice is to grin and bear it with a sense of humor, if nothing else he will force you into being dilligent about leaving stuff laying about!

Good Luck!

PS Excercise is yours and his/her best friend

I agree with everyone else, an unsupervised puppy should be crated. They should never be alone long enough that they can get into trouble.

Think about it, if the pup is chewing a USB cable, what happens when they chew the electrical cord to the lamp?

the funny thing is she was with me in my den.under the desk with a milk bone.the cable was plugged in the computer.i know they cant be left alone but when im doing something she seems to get into trouble.i have a crate which she sleeps in and when i go somewhere she goes into the crate.i like to let her stay with my kids so she can bond with them and thats another time she gets into trouble.u cant leave a puppy in a crate all the time its not healthy.im trying the bitter apple and a stern NO ill give that some time and see if she is picking up on it

go for a big beef bone. When i give my pup beef bones it doesnt chew anything all day and will work on it for hours. They are pretty easy to find, check out petco or just ask the butcher and pop it in the oven for a little bit.

the beef bones combined with the firm no's is good. Also on petsmart they have sonic dog trainers, so if you catch them doing something bad, just hit them with the noise.

That's the look of a dog that is running the show. Don't be misled by the eyes. You have to take on the role of the alpha dog and let the dog know what is acceptable and unacceptable.

Such a pretty girl!;) You are absolutely right, keeping any animal crated at all times is not good! But not crating when no one can supervisor can be very dangerous. One of my cousins hates crates, so he rents apt. w/an extra room just for his dog.lol His dog is now 4 or 5 years old, and still a major problem. He gets into all sorts of troubles. You would think that by now the dog would have grown out of the chewing, and other bad things he does. Out of my three pits only one is a pain, and she happens to be my cousin's dog's off spring.Arg I think it is in her genes to be a pain.lol The other 2 are basically good, and no longer in need of crating. The female of the two still sleeps in her crate only because that is where she wants to sleep.

Anyway, don't dispare she will get through the puppy stage, and become a model citizen as long as you stay on top of correcting bad behaviour.:) But just remember dogs are perpetual toddlers.
