I recently moved to Stony Brook and a friend is coming in from Brooklyn this week. We wanted to try a party boat our here while the weather is still good. Can anyone recommend something? The only ones I found in Port Jeff charge over $60 so Im hoping to find something a bit cheaper.

Small charter boats are more expensive. Charters often start at $300 for a few hours and you have to pay the full amount regardless of how many people you have. A party boat can cost as little as $40 for the same time, or even longer. If I had the extra cash lying around I'd always take a charter but alas that is not the case.

If you can make it to Riverhead, there is a new boat called the Zephyr...its the boat that used to be the original Angler (out of Howard Beach). I don't know their rates, but since its a no-frills type of boat, it should be relatively cheap. Take care, Eric

if you can make it out to sheepshead bay there are a few good party boats that might still be sailing like the ocean eagle, Brooklyn VI, capt. Dave, and the Sea Queen.
Ever since they raised the limit to 19.5 for fluke i havent fished in NY, but when i used to go here the sea queen used to be my fav boat.

I just moved out of Brooklyn and used to go to Sheapshead all the time but its an hour - 1.5 drive from here so I'd rather stick local. The fishing is better out here anyways and the water is less polluted.

I found a bunch out of Captree State Park and I recall seeing one out of Huntington but I cant find it anymore. Captree's boats tend to be more in line with Brooklyn's so thats probably where we'll head.

I haven't been out on the Zephyr, but I was on it when it was the Angler out of Howard Beach. As I said, no-frills, not fast, but comfortable enough. Contact the captain....if there are enough in your group he may make the trip...he's new, and he wants to make a reputation for himself, so he is aiming to please.
