torres words :" this is a great organization and i want to come back"

if torres turning down the contract offer is about money well then he is full of it!
7mil a year he got. he got that last contract when he was taking the yanks to the series and the alcs. not to mention losing in 2004. with all due respect to him-- he did win the 90's for us. granted. but since 2001 he has not won anything other then divisions.
with that being said:

torre was offered a 1 year 5 mil based contract, (which is more then any other manger in baseball by 1 1/2 million dollars BTW) with in centives of up to 8 mil a year and a guaranteed next year if he gets to the series. that is a respecatble contract. He was nothing of a manager before he came here and was given the resources of this team to win it. people say: hey loyalty, yeah i have it but with all due respect he was given a 200 milloion dollar payroll and couldnt make the guys work for him to get this teamt to the series. he hasnt done that in 3 years. so the mission statement of the yanks, he has failed at that. he has become a players manager and have watched the guys go to work and could not lead the team to the promise land. i for one am sad to see him go but i do agree that it is a neccessary evil. earl weaver said it best : "there comes a time where a manger has to move on cause he doesnt have the same effect on his players as he once had." its true. i hear posada and rivera saying that he has to stay etc. why? cause thats all they know and feel comfortable with him? thats not a reason for him to stay. they have lost focus on what the teams goal is then. if they dont like it here because of him then they should go as well. i dont want that but if that is the only way they played well then they have serious ability issues. i love my team but i cannot agree that he is this teflon guy. i rememeber when he was 1st hired and everybody was like what a joke this is going to be. and then he gets us to the series and wins it. so why cant we do that again? its a shame. i also feel if torre is going then cashaman should go as well. a gm that is dictated by what another team does is sad. aka kei igawa. shame. he has made some pretty bad signings. some of the fault lies with him. good luck mr. torre. please dont ruin anything and say the reason why he left was because of money because you will look like a complete idiot in the fact that you said you wanted to be here and was given the chance at a pay cut yes but still could have been paid more then any other manager in baseball

Torre will be back

This whole senario has been planned. He will come back in the front office(player development) as he wants to be near his mansion and family in Harrison. This will be announced when Joe Giardi gets the Mgr. job at the conclusion of the WS. I fell this is true as this is how the boss has done thing in the past. I also predict A-Rod will stay on his current contract and then extend 3-5 additional years at $35 million a year.

disagree with the girardi thing. there is no way they will let someone coach a team with guys who he used to play with. remember girardi had rookies that he could threaten and move around if neccessary because he is a rookie. here he has veterans who can shut down and say goodbye to him and tell him what he can do with himself if they want

Torre made the decision that had to be made. Why work for an organization that doesn't have faith in you any more. They would have second guessed him the entire year no matter what happened, win or lose. Plus, think about the abuse he would receive from the media the entire year. Torre had a great run and the past seven years have shown that things need to change. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more players leave after what happened with Joe.

I think Torre made the right decision. It's the entire Yankee organization that I find deplorable right now. I heard caller after caller on the the FAN identifying themselves as Red Sux fans. They are all dancing in the streets. They think the Yankee brass did them the biggest favor since the 'favor' Bill Buckner did for the Mets. I agree wholeheartedly.

I'm finding it hard as hell to understand how any Yankee fan in their right mind can say Torre managed any different in the post season as he did in the regular season. The team hit a MLB leading .290 in the regular season. In the post season they hit a whopping .228. Their 19 game winner, Wang, pitched like a 19 game loser. Clemens and Moose were as horrible as expected. And all this is Torre's fault? Give me a break.

Since the infamous date of May 29th (21-29 and 14.5 out), the Yankees went 73-39. That's .652 ball, the best in MLB. The season of 2007 could arguably be one of the greatest regular seasons in Torre's 12 year Yankee career. When most teams would toss in the towel and find it hard to bring themselves to the ball park day after day, Torre not only kept them together and focused, but got them to unite when they were at their lowest point.

Offering him a cut in salary isn't even the biggest problem. Offering him a one year contract that is incentive based should be saved for someone who you question their drive, their motivation, their mental fortitude. Torre unquestionably gave his all, all the time.

If the Yankees were going to make him an offer and TRULY wanted him to accept it with the sincerity that they wanted him to return, they shouldn't have waited two weeks......and then make it a do or die offer, no negotiation. That is not an offer from an organization that wants you. That is an offer from an organization that wants you to decline and make it look like you are the ingrate, not accepting the sizable sum of $5 mil. That was a bogus offer and it was presented in such a fashion that they wanted it to be rejected.

It is a sad day in Yankee land. I can't see them choosing a better leader. Actually, I feel sorry for the poor soul that follows in Torre's footsteps. And if it's Mattingly I feel even worse, because he is as beloved a Yankee as there is. And if he fails as manager, I'd hate to see him booed and trashed in the press.

Joe Torre made the right decision. He was basically fired because the Yankee front office knew that he would not accept the terms of their
offer. By cutting his salary it was a signal that they don't have confidence in him. He felt that the incentives based on the success in making and advancing in the playoffs were not fair to his players. I think the Yankee fans got really spoiled with Joe's early success. If we spread those championships out over the tenure of his job as manager there would be no problems. It takes a lot of things to really go your way in winning the World Series. Some balls bouncing your way, a pitcher who gets really hot,
a rookie or no name getting key hits, and a little luck. Can you guys name five guys on the Rockies? How good are they playing. The Yankees were the last team to repeat winning the World Series. It just doesn't happen that often. Joe Torre is a true gentleman who knew how to handle his players, the media, and the whole New York scene. I think change is good.
I hope as a Yankee fan that his succesor will have some of the same prosperity that Joe had.

I think this is the reason why I don't think they will pick Mattingly as their manager next year. I think they will have one manager for 2 years, and replaced that guy with Mattingly. Next two years, Yankees will sold out their stadium no matter what because of last year in this currently stadium and year after that it's brand new Yankees stadium.

yes, torre made the right choice
yes, i think he should go, it's time for a change

the $5mil is a good offer considering what he done for the last 3 years but the incentive for motivation is an insult. would have no problem with just the 5 million. if a player did not play well and getting old does that mean he should have the same salary on his next contract

let's just move on, he is not that great manager he was given players

Master, you pretty much hit it right on the head. If he was asked to take a contract based on performance, then shouldn't Arod be given the same? Like if he bats like he does in the playoffs then he should not be making what he is.

Joe will be a legend in yankee land, pity the guy who fills his shoes.
