unless the conversation with dell was being recorded, the verbal info is just Circumstantial evidence(ie hearsay). sueing however may get em to drop it since they really dont wanna deal with u. your best bet is to ***** n hope for the best.
in fact, a lot of (shady)businesses with no interest payment options r counting on scheme like this to make more $. this is the age we'r living in with corporate greed.

All of the big computer companies care about is there pocket, Dell sux. Period. Hands down. I say pay the 170 and then dispute it after that as not to incur any extra fees.

Why is it that big companies caring about their profit is evil? Your pension is most likely partly invested in Dell stock. On behalf of you and your family Dell BETTER be concerned with their bottom line!

yes, big companies should make as much $ as possible no matter what method is use. throw ethics, quality assurance, customer services, n "do the right thing" attitude out the window. we all should learn from them n teach our kids the same.

This situation and Fritz excusing Dell's faulty information reminds me of that recent Supreme Court decision: a plaintiff submitted an appeal by the date given him by the judge. The judge, it turned out, was wrong and the date was late. The Supreme Court majority (5 to 4; you know who the 5 were) said "Tough luck, no appeal for you, buster." If the answer given her by Dell was that the payment was due on the 8th, then it was due on the 8th. Which part of the company said it is not relevant - they are all Dell and represent Dell. If departments within the company can't get their stories straight it's not the customer's fault. When they say all they can do is cut the fee - they lie. They can wipe it if they want to.

the annoying part is this was the last payment, the computer is paid off, so this last bill is just charging the bogus interest fee.

Dells customer service is now located in India. apparently getting through to a person in charge is a nightmare. each call takes about a half hour :tired:

That is very frustrating. When I bought my last PC they told me that I was getting 12 months interest free but when I got my first statement the amount was due in full so I called their customer service department and of course I got somebody in India. At the end they transferred me to a senior rep here in the US and he said that my PC didn't qualify for the 12 months free so I told them why do I need their preferred account if I don't have any benefits? After several calls I was able to charge the new PC to my Amex. Dell sucks.

If she has both the statement and bill she should fax them to the senior rep that she spoke to. If they said she could pay on the 8th verbally and one of the two had that date on it and they confirmed that was the date Dell is WRONG by charging her any fees. She shouldn't have to pay a penny extra. I agree that she should pay what they want with a credit card and fight it as long as it takes until the money is given back. Don't stop sending letters, calling, and even sending a letter to the better business bureau. See what they say about the situation.

I find it amusing that she had her attorney draft a letter. Is he billing her less than $170.00?

...and before anyone says it; it's never about the principle it always about the money.

1st off to record something via the phone lines is inadmissable in NY state unless you are notified of it and consent to it. hence the phrase " the following maybe recorded for quality assurances". that is there way of getting around it. 2nd sorry johnathan i think your friend is better off complaining but at the same time send out the payment. i would make the paper trail, get names or id numbers of any and all persons spoken to. they can track that down including her own phone bill that reflects a conversation and then argue the hell with them and advise them that she will then notify better business bureau. not like they will do anything but anyone is allowed to file one and the way dell is doing today with there customer service in the papers it adds on to the growing stack of complaints against them. i personally have told them that there customer service plan is the worst, based on the fact that it is based out of bombay india, who have the WORST accents and that they brutalize the english language. (speaking of there individual workers not meant towards anyone of there decent respectively) that i would never do business again with them.

Let's all blame Dell on this.

I think what we should do is start our own Finance Company. Let's all save our hard earned money and pool it together. We'll front the money for people that want to buy computers. If they pay us off within three years we won't charge any interest! Yes if they pay us off in three years we won't make any profit whatsoever. Now some people won't pay us back and if that happens I'll be sorry I lost your money. If people do pay us back but within the 3 years I'll be sorry that you gave me your money for three years and I didn't make you a dime.

Now suppose someone pays us back in more than the three years but then complains and calls us evil. We'll just give them back the money they owe us and we'll have done it for free again.

Anyone else find this to be a really bad business model?

Get off the welfare mentality, stop thinking that every entity with more money than you owes you something. Read what you sign. Follow specific instructions. Take responsibility and follow the commitments you make, such as making payments on time.

Dell's outsourced to India tech support does suck but you don't have to call to get tech support. You can do it via a chat. What's good about that chat is a transcript of the session is e-mailed to you and kept on file.

agreed about the idea of a transcript. very tedious if you ask me. any other company i can call and talk to a person who speaks clear english. they do not have this. so as far as i am concerned dell should stop trying to save a buck and send american jobs to 3rd world countries to pay them slave wages to save a buck there. so it goes both ways i guess. you are right. dont bother buying from dell. find a company here in america who cares about there service and can speak the language. BTW- love that avatar fritz
