It's $250 for the class, $275 for the open water dives. The training material is about $100 and you'll need to buy mask, snorkel, fins, wetsuit and booties, which usually run somewhere around $250-$300
I would also recommend adding the nitrox certification for $100 (good to have anywhere) and the drysuit certification for $100 if you plan on doing any local diving.
I got my certfication from village divers a couple of years ago, although I did my open water dives in Belize. They where great, and I reccomend them to people all the time.
Not really, the only swimming you have to do is during the first class and you can do it any style you want. If I remember correctly it's 8 lengths of the pool and 10 minutes treading water.
I may have to sign up for a pool first to see exactly how long I can swim/tread
Is it swimming 8 lengths and then tread right after? Or do you get any break inbetween?
I don't consider myself a strong swimmer and I did 16 lengths and 15 minutes treading water for my divemaster cert. You can do the swim floating on your back, and there is no time limit.
It's a ridiculous requirement, seeing as how you will never need to swim or tread water with your gear on.
Leslie, let me know when you plan on doing it, I'm thinking about starting my trimix course and will take a trip to Dutch with you guys... need to get back in the water soon.
I did some certiffication dives at dutch springs quarry. great place to learn as they have platforms in the water at different depths. ther's also a submerged airplane. Defiinately the best place for a certification dive in the area!
