I can't imagine watching the death of a pet. How very, very sad - and tough to erase from the mind. Good that your wife is talking to them about it - are they responding well?

If you involve them in the process of finding a new dog, that may be therapeutic for them. Just a thought. Not that you're replacing the dog you lost - but that you are a family with a dog, and maybe the new dog will bring joy into your lives that will ease the pain of having lost a member of your family...

Good luck -

I am so sorry for your loss. Try the AKC pages on their website they have rescues listed I believe.

that is so sad. sorry for your loss. some may think of dogs as animals but there are many of us who see them as part of our family. they may not be able to talk in our own language but they are very communicative and loyal.

good luck on your search.

Oh, that's so sad. :sad2: I'm sorry to hear of your loss. The relationship with an animal friend can be so pure and in some ways I think it can be as hard (if not harder) as losing a person in your life. A year ago I had to have my Siamese cat Spencer put to sleep. I cried like a baby. As much as I did when my mom died. It still hurts, but gets a little better each day.

Best of luck with the new puppy,
Robin

My condolences to you and your family...

I can almost feel the same how your family is going thru as I know all your family love animals.

Alex, feel better.

It may be inappropriate to ask but I think this would help all of us. If the same thing happen to us, from your profession, what would be good to do to help if we cannot find a vet?

My wife was alone with the kids, and I was giving her phone advice. The situation was frantic. An EPI PEN (EPINEPHRINE SHOT) for an anaphylactic reaction might have saved her life. I spoke to several anesthesiologists- pulling her tongue forward may have opened her airway a bit. Keeping her cool or iced down may have kept her from overheating and worsening the situation. Benadryl would not have helped beacause her airway was swollen and could not have gotten a pill down her throat. Most importantly you need to know where a nearby vet is and a local er is -God forbid we were dealing with a child. It is extremely important to know these places at vacation locations. An emergency tracheostomy might have saved her- I would have done it had i been there, but my kids would have been really scarred had it not worked--- Daddy cut Yaffa's throat. Overall a horrible situation.

Alex

I know exactly how you feel. I also suffer from bee sting and I alway carry an Epi Pen with me when I go away. Around 18 years I got stung by a bee and thank God my uncle was there (he's a doctor) he realized that I was having a anaphylactic shock and took me to the nearest drug store. I passed out in the car and I only woke up in the middle of the floor in a drug store after he gave me a shot of adrenaline and cortisone.

I am super sorry...losing Yaffa so dramatically must have made it doubly hard.

I have heard that English bulldogs are very prone to alergies. Many that are surrendered to bulldog rescue are given up because the owners cannot afford the shots or medication.

I know you must feel some sense of urgency to ease your children's heartbreak with a new puppy, but I think it is great that you are working to find a responsible breeder.

Best luck and warm thoughts,
LeslieS
