Plumber question

I have a leaky hotwater shut off valve under my sink that needs to be replaced? It's leaking at the knob area. Can i replace it my self?
-How long would it take a plumber to replace?
-what's the going rate to have it replaced? or what the labor rate?
-anyone know of a decent plubmer in Central NJ (Scotch plains area)

I know Ronen is a professional plumber, but i'm not within the city to ask for his service.

It shouldn't take more than a half hour. If everything is easily accessible even less time.

And depending on whether it is soldered on, or not you should be able to do this yourself. Just remember to shutt off the water at the main.

if its a slow drip.......try tightening the nut that holds the valve stem....

alot of times the washer inside the stem turns hard over time and just needs to be tightened

try shut off the main n release the pressure before tightening it.

if u try to fix it yourself buy a copper pipe cutter.you will need to locate the shut off valve in the basement.DO NOT shut off the main usually they are old and you do not want to crack thay valve.after water is off dry the inside of pipe.sodder will not stick to a wet pipe.what i do is put a little bread inside of pipe.get the pipe hot but do not overheat it.take sodder and at a nice easy pace drag it all around the pipe.take a wet rag after its soddered and cool it off.after u turn on water and there is no leaks,remove the part that holds the screen on faucet and let water run that willremove the bread in line.hope this helps

It's a hot water valve. Just shut off the valve at the hot water heater. No need to turn off the main.
