Definately get a lawyer, he will get it knocked down to a broken light or something and a fine. Better than having points on the license. 30+ is pretty major, do you have lead on your foot? LOL

You don't need a lawyer in NJ. I got a ticket about a year ago in NJ, it was 25 over the limit. And I went to the court and before you talked to the judge, they will ask you if you want to plea bargain. They explain, by law, you can use 2 plea bargain within 5 years. You have your fine on your ticket and court fee (about $300+) and they will let you go without a point.

Without knowing this, if you hired a lawyer, you will pay the ticket + court fee and your lawyer fee which you can easily do it if you can say basic english, yes or no.

BTW, if you got a license in NY, find out if the points from NJ transfer to NY. I have NJ license and I got a ticket in NY little more than a year ago. I paid the fine and the point never transfered to NJ, cross my fingers.

If it doesn't transfered to NY license, it's much cheaper to just pay the fine and get it over with.

points do transfer and not just between NY and NJ there are a bunch of states that have linked their database....(greaaaaaaaaaat). My little brother got a ticket in Indiana right after he got his 350z and he ignored it. He got a letter from NY saying he better pay or he would get points here too. Also, as a side note unmarkeds aren't very "unmarked" if you see them. Unless it's a seized car then it can be almost anything or those freakin taxis.....I hate those taxis.
