I am thinking about buying Toyota Prius. I am currently own well equiped 2006 Mini Cooper S. And me and my wife found out few weeks ago that she is pregnant. So Mini is just not a good car for us anymore.

First we went to see Honda CR-V, I liked the car but they told me they are going to give me only $11,000 for my mini, KBB is about $18k with average condition (I paied little more than $27k new). So I kindly declined the offer and I walked out.

So we decided to go to Toyota since this Toyota dealer is owned by my Mini dealership. I have to see how much they will offer me for trade in value. If they will give me close to KBB value, I think I am going to trade in to get brand new Prius.

Anyone else owned Prius here? Can you give me any feedback? I read on actually Prius owner website, they are claiming I will get about 45 to 47 MPG in highway, and I can get better on local. This is awsome news since I have to commute 80+ miles everyday.

Let me know guys.

Well.. no dealer will give anything closed to kbb.. i suggest you sell it on your own.. ebay.. cars.com so on..
as for the prius? i have no idea about anything about it.. but if youre gonna have a kid.. you need a bigger car.. so the prius may not cut it. .when i had my first child we had a maxima.. just right.. but now we have 2.. can you say mini van....
Thats the way to go if you plan on having more...

First off COngrats on the baby :) Then I will say that both cars you mentioned are great cars and will do you well. I have the 3 row seating trailblazer, I have 2 kids and lots of room for storage. If you travel lightly the Prius and the CRV will be fine, if you travel heavy (everything including the kitchen sink) You will need bigger.

Thanks guys. We've been planning for long time and we are so excited to have a new addition in my family. And I don't really sleep much, so I hope it is ok, hehe.

Prius is surprisely big inside the car. And we will not have another baby. This is it! We planning to have only one.

Prius is almost as big as Camry. I think it's big enough for one baby.

And Prius is environmental friendly car, so I think I can sleep better at night as well.

As far as trading in my Mini cooper, I have to see how much they will appraise my car first. And if it comes anywhere near $18k, I will just trade it off. I checked cars.com and autotrader and craiglist, they are listed at around $20k but I don't want to hassle. But if they offer me something really ridiculous money, I guess I have to sell it my own.

Check your spam folder, you probably need to confirm your sub to the board and the automated response with the link you need to click on probably got sent to the spam folder in error by your e-mail provider.

Congrats on the baby. What color is the mini? My little sis is looking for one.:scratchch

It's Pepper White Mini Cooper S. It was the first checkmate edition, newly added on 2006, in NY/NJ area. Like I said earlier, I put 70 to 80 miles per day and my car already got 32400 miles on it, and it's going up everyday. It have two tones sits, blue leather and gray cloth in the middle. Dark blue panel. And Harnan (spell?) audio system. Sun roof and convenient and winter package on it. Checkmate package include the sports package, so it have really nice 17 inch wheel and good suspension, little rough though. It's 6 speed automatic (my wife can't drive stick yet I think she drove once since we bought this car) with paddle shifter on steering wheel. I had scratch on the bumper but I took care it from Mini dealer (I had to pay way more to get it done from Mini since I want to keep all the record and do it right). And there's few more options in there but I can't remember.

Mini cooper is unlike Honda or Toyota, it have thousands of options to put. But basically it's like custome car, it's hard to find exact same optioned Mini. I put an order and I had to wait close to 2 months to get this.

Mini starts at little over 19k to I saw one in the display for $40k, and this one didn't even had all the option. I paid $27+k on this one.

If you want it, let me know. I just paid off $3k left on my load couple of days ago. I think it will take a week or two to get the title from my bank.

Thanks.

all dealers will low ball u on trade. They need to make $ off your trade plus all the paper work and preping it to boost up the price for the next sucker... i mean buyer:biglaugh:
only way to get a few more bucks is to sell it urself if u have the time n energy to do so. careful n read up on all the pitfall though so u wont get scam or shortchange urself.

Whatever est miles the dealer gives you i want you to subtract about 8 miles off of that. NO car is going to give you that much knowing how we drive now. Pedal to the metal. And i know you are stepping on the pedal since you have an S mini. Ok take care and good luck with the car trade off and congrats on the baby on the way.

Have you looked at the Jetta TDI? I have a 2003 w/95,000 miles. I've never had any major problems. Little things like the tailight that keeps going out every two months, but that isn't really a problem. I changed the first set of brakes at 67,000, doing the timing belt as we speak.

I average 580-620 miles on 14 gallons of diesel (41-44mpg). I also travel 100+ miles to and from work and drive with a heavy foot.

The only thing I regret is not getting the wagon intstead of the sedan.

Just so you know; hybirds really don't save you any money.

For instance:

2007 Toyota Prius $22,795
2007 Toyota Corolla $14,925

Price Difference of $7,870.00

Prius 60/51 mpg (city/highway)
Corolla 32/41 mpg

Using $2.75 as the price per gallon of gas and consider that most driving is going to be highway miles.

Prius: 500,000 miles / 51 mpg= 9,803.92 gallons of gas used
9,803.92 gallons of gas*$2.75= $26,960.78 spent on gas

Corolla: 500,000 miles / 41 mpg= 12,195.12 gallons of used
12,195.12*$2.75= $33,536.58 spent on gas

$33,536.58-26,960.78= $6,575.80 more spent on gas for Corolla thanPrius

$7,870.00 (price difference in the cars)
- $6,575.80 (Gas savings from driving the Prius 500,000 miles)
$1,294.20

So after driving the car 500,000 miles your still in the hole for almost $1300.

You have to remember, Prius is much bigger than corolla. And it's actually almost identical size as Camry. And with tax credit and other discount toyota just put on Prius, it's actually almost same price as new Camry. And it's a hatchback, I can put more stuff on Prius than Camry or Corolla.

Sounds like you guys think Prius is very small size like Civic or Corolla or Jetta but Prius is more like family car size, you'll be surprise.

Right now people are getting fully equiped Prius, Nav, leather and other goodies for around $26000. I am not sure how much Camry will cost with Nav, probably around $25000? But Prius got Tax credit for being a hybrid, it used to be $3k but right now it's around $1600ish.
