Here are just some of my birds and stories about them that I think interesting.

Pic (1)
Let me roll off the story with the characters. The parokettes and the zebra finches are new housemates where the parakettes are grown from eggs and the zebra finches immigrated from the big parrots' land into this new soil of parakettes.

The new home is built in glass while the floor has been paved with wood and even have a backyard with crushed corals. Not to mention there is a cliff of lace rock (thanks Pedro whom I have stolen half of what Waterplant has claimed.) The backyard will eventually be a pond where duckweed will be grown as their food. Before, the yard becomes a pond, I think they can use some of those calcium.

Pic (2)
Being the only one of its kind in town, you can see him envy the companionship of the the two parakettes.

I am going to find some legal wife(s) for the lonely guy here. A MR member said he may have some waiting to immigrate into this melting pot. Lets pray for them and hope the hopefuls are pretty and healthy. Stay tuned for next episode.

Note: Thank you WaterPlant for helping to renovate this house of them, Pedro's rock and Scarf's crushed coral.

wing i can't believe you mixed these two species. i hope the parakeets dont kill the finch. btw i have a large plexiglass box w/ sliding doors on the front. you can use it for the same purpose. i would just drill holes on the sides and top for ventilation.

The parakeetes are raised from eggs so they are much sweeter and less violent like the ones from petshop. These two let you touch them and play "wrestling" on the floor which most wild ones would not. They would try to do the same with the finch but the finch is so much faster and not really interested in grabbing sports. This particular finch comes from a big cage where big parots patrol. He is so used to bigger birds.

Thanks for the offer in advance and when I come by your way, I will take it.

Jon, i also crossbred canaries with green finches. I tell you that the offsprings were singing champs. I tried Gouldian finches too, but damn they are picky and hard to breed. But they are so beautiful. My favorite is the true red factor. I wouldn't mind either a Roller or american singer too.

Parakeets were the easiest. I had this one male that had clutches from two females at the same time. he used to split his time. Now that's what i called a stud.

I would like to have a nice sized aviary in the future to give them a natural looking home.

I would like to see and hear what the offspring is like, indeed.

No offense intended. I think the birds are muslim. I knwo couple muslim guys and they all have couple wives.

Oops no more free lace rock from Pedro  and I will now find a much harder time to get free crushed corals as well. I should not have posted the pic up. LOLOL

Wingo, i don't have any pictures of the offsprings. I wish i was into photography back then. I can tell you though that the offsprings kind of resembled the green finch but were just a tad larger. They were sort of like in the middle of the two. For the most part they took on the song of the canary, but since the green finch was in the vicinity they would also copy that. Also i believe from what i read one time that the offsprings were sterile. I can't confirm that since i never got to breed them. Crossbreeding is typical, there's a few finches freom which to do so.

The zebra finches babies are so small sometimes you wonder how the parents feed them, but that's nature for you.

Interesting. I know the babies of zebra finches are tiny because I also raise most of mine from eggs and trade them out to lower the inbreed problems. So sad if the offsprings are sterile because when I hear you said that they cross bred, the first impression is that the offsprings will be bigger and probably stronger and thus less sensitive to wind drafts.

Finches do learn others' songs(and IMO they learn to speak.) I noticed that when I introduce new finches into a group, their tones are not the same and after couple weeks they will sound similar to each other (they also get closer to each other) and in couple months they will "speak" the same dialect. My finches will make a certain sound when I, passing by them, hold a can of food to feed my fish and will make another sound when I, passing by them, carry a bucket to change water. Their early warning system are quite interesting.

Yeah, most songbirds learn to imitate other birds. That's how parrots and mockinbirds perfect this art. For example, Roller canaries are only kept with other roller canaries so that they learn that song only. Since they are bred for song, that is extremely important.

Got any more pics?

Episode 2.1

Pic (1)
Before the Three's Company becoem official, this is the orginal hoem of the Tales of 2 Birdies. Customers who came in the cafe who love to look at phychadelic wall paiting while the birdies hopefully will find the place in the space. This old home was so out of Fung Shui that they hardly see any real sky so, the new house was built as shown in Episode 1. Suddenly, I feel like watching Star Wars, episodes are jumping back and forth.

Pic(2)
On the side of their house, there is a rail of lower and plants but all too fake that I think the two birdies realized as well. To the further end, there is a toy soldier crane where many parents say it's a cheat and would stop their kids from treasure hunting. I caught 5 treasures out from 4 tries-I hate people making rediculous claims.

Meanwhile the birdies also have the treasure "tank". It's the tall plastic glass I put in for them to hold fresh veggies for them. I used to put duck weeds in every bird's home but since they are the most popular food, the fresh water tanks cannot grow enough for all my birdies compounded with the trend of diminishing tanks due to my new love in salt water. I now have to subsidize this secondary veggie. Veggie they eat alright but they found a new use for the "tank". They put orange peel(the red thing on the top of the water) into the tank. I put dried orange peels on the ground of birds' home as a fragance but they rather use them as spice. Hey that's my mother's recipe! many Asian food are preapred with orange peel. If you ever wonder what the smell is, try hold Lipton Orange Leave Tea bag up close and imagine ten times the strength.

Episode 2.2

Pic(1)
In the past, I put a shallower bowl with water and veggie and always have it dry up due to too much wood shavings in the bowl. So I thought by getting a taller glass, the bird would not accidentally cause the wood shavings thrown into the glass. However, the same happen with the tall glass as seen in pic(1). It's no accident that the wood shavings are in the glass, but intentionally dump there by the birdies! They would search and search in the house and when they find something they like they dump it there.

Pic(2)
Look at how proud it feels when it has collected so much for his "tank". Don't SPS guys have the same mentality?

Problem arises, the veggie does not got eaten fast enough before they got covered by their treasure, so I give up using the glass as a feeder. When I clean out the glass, I found beautyful shells(thanks for the curshed coral from Scarf) at the bottom. What a treasure! Funny enough, once I put the shells back in their crushed coral "backyard" They pick them up and dump them back into the glass.
